Cheryl also designed this lovely pattern, and I had a good time piecing this quilt, after a good bit of angst with fabric selection.

<p></p>
And now it's finally time to quilt it. I'm always a bit surprised when I pull out a quilt top I haven't seen for a few years, because in my head it usually looks a little different. For this top, I was surprised how much the darker gray and the lighter gray contrasted, which was fun to piece, but presented a conundrum during quilting time.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTXermyzw0c4v3kGRRVi1y1Yb02NItMWMZ-H37-RagOVEPUnwAOSOlsv4a5fZ4eElQTaR0Hs58fPh8E4cI7LNN2G7g4JzEa5r2thxzeVWLu7Q7AS9ne0Gnh0jQtTGM8e83yPRE2FqjjVP0_a-FN2W2p22E77oOFNsNedQCUTLUN5rf1eIDf7KLqsvXXgG_/s3024/IMG_0671.HEIC" style=""><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTXermyzw0c4v3kGRRVi1y1Yb02NItMWMZ-H37-RagOVEPUnwAOSOlsv4a5fZ4eElQTaR0Hs58fPh8E4cI7LNN2G7g4JzEa5r2thxzeVWLu7Q7AS9ne0Gnh0jQtTGM8e83yPRE2FqjjVP0_a-FN2W2p22E77oOFNsNedQCUTLUN5rf1eIDf7KLqsvXXgG_/s600/IMG_0671.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
And that of course is ... what color thread to I use? I definitely do not want to switch threads through this quilt, that's for sure. Well, from previous experience, the answer has to be a light gray thread. For some reason, lighter color threads look much better on darker fabric than the other way around.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHdfJpDI_rw-92WE7-GrawxdreN4M7mUwyKbzw8YXH47BPxqcpTbeHBF05RlnnLd1mhokpPnN8qt1D5femPozoWPzRMRW0qgrWR7XhfZwHjXxtZ4JyBiu5XGnKLG14cFxjBaY30KDuuPaBag_WE59e49NKToZ-O8Z7_xt4FCVqIgccdNHO9x4fzvUDzYjg/s3024/IMG_0670.HEIC" style=""><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHdfJpDI_rw-92WE7-GrawxdreN4M7mUwyKbzw8YXH47BPxqcpTbeHBF05RlnnLd1mhokpPnN8qt1D5femPozoWPzRMRW0qgrWR7XhfZwHjXxtZ4JyBiu5XGnKLG14cFxjBaY30KDuuPaBag_WE59e49NKToZ-O8Z7_xt4FCVqIgccdNHO9x4fzvUDzYjg/s600/IMG_0670.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
These block-based quilts are my favorite to quilt because they're kind of mindless, zen-like experiences when I work on them. I really get to shut out the world, and even shut off my brain, and just get into a flow state.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieyDwZonGR64zQKbbvMkei_tbycdTD205nt9PgkMMOPtB_oTD0p6kijIX8UGwziZCCUpnXo50-v53vgQTPa3joad9Kf7VPomqSBW7JGTvxsrvmZn6f53LgfLoUEvbk2BjBwIP9Abo7LQMc1t2vFpC6uAyKz4s9-DbRDp0NX6le4WLODhSVSc4IFxItJpLd/s3024/IMG_0672.HEIC" style=""><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieyDwZonGR64zQKbbvMkei_tbycdTD205nt9PgkMMOPtB_oTD0p6kijIX8UGwziZCCUpnXo50-v53vgQTPa3joad9Kf7VPomqSBW7JGTvxsrvmZn6f53LgfLoUEvbk2BjBwIP9Abo7LQMc1t2vFpC6uAyKz4s9-DbRDp0NX6le4WLODhSVSc4IFxItJpLd/s600/IMG_0672.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
For the quilting design, I alternated a tried and true swirly mix and a geometric design for the open spaces, and a dot-to-dot geometric design for the blocks.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkRz5vCwEh2b6EKo29UrF1jjBB7HEhrOqWa4_i6tmLn4RYIlvb6uBi_8yLtq5yl2CCXFj1goqmIYP1UtmlfFhS45n6dc8DV4pXexGYn-FS2jmOTXDI7R2c6v2aNCVRI0790t-KWjHKCsRmsPykVX4iF3rUwv9CMfGfwT7c506v0D7hJhGMm2rNCn-uB_Eo/s3024/IMG_0674.HEIC" style=""><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkRz5vCwEh2b6EKo29UrF1jjBB7HEhrOqWa4_i6tmLn4RYIlvb6uBi_8yLtq5yl2CCXFj1goqmIYP1UtmlfFhS45n6dc8DV4pXexGYn-FS2jmOTXDI7R2c6v2aNCVRI0790t-KWjHKCsRmsPykVX4iF3rUwv9CMfGfwT7c506v0D7hJhGMm2rNCn-uB_Eo/s600/IMG_0674.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
And after 4 years, it's finished! I'm really happy with the end result, and the whole experience was just beautifully relaxing. I can't say that for every quilt, but it's definitely true for this one.
<p></p>

I wanted something that can hold my photo ops and souvenirs, and have outside pockets to quickly access event tickets and badges and the such.
<p></p>
With that goal in mind, I started scoping bag patterns, and quickly decided on Superbloom by Sara Lawson of <a href="https://www.sewsweetness.com">Sew Sweetness</a>. It fulfilled my needs and also, there was a video workshop to follow along with. I simply cannot make bags without a video workshop, but Sara is my favorite teacher in this regard, and by following her video workshops, I've done things I did not think was possible.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFPzGlh6nr6oI9dZ1caRanhP6dZmZgaNpMyQ8kg5PCM-9_yu8lCK499yAk466v5-egg_KW33MF76T7ScMrnoDznxHzxRNXU5jL7DPazjwsDjWtcXwc5Daxzzxw033-gLMlAXOFgOcBKVE9z3qxlWWv9HWhPIWu4GxXpWOQ6hyphenhyphenafeFxWnzRitjDY1mFGNjt/s3024/IMG_0684%20Copy.JPG" style=""><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFPzGlh6nr6oI9dZ1caRanhP6dZmZgaNpMyQ8kg5PCM-9_yu8lCK499yAk466v5-egg_KW33MF76T7ScMrnoDznxHzxRNXU5jL7DPazjwsDjWtcXwc5Daxzzxw033-gLMlAXOFgOcBKVE9z3qxlWWv9HWhPIWu4GxXpWOQ6hyphenhyphenafeFxWnzRitjDY1mFGNjt/s600/IMG_0684%20Copy.JPG"/></a></div>
<p></p>
My favorite feature of this bag is actually the rainbow zipper tape and the feather-shaped zipper pulls! I finally learned to use zippers by the yard, and I'm now totally addicted.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGm2Qt6mB7Y4y9RkIoYQmtl9Fvo_HaZ9M8iPFwLy4yNgSuzGcH0uJU9cDyNAtEcZ8zgq2QTadZAQOTRP2JmSiycl2T1c-N2eNT6c2dLrdDSTRrhcvaSADfV-LWCpX-pcwZafdbFMhq34zJkIR5J58wShnWyZB2isu5Pne_d70VGTTpEAGBMxjxfYotpimN/s3024/IMG_0681.HEIC" style=""><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGm2Qt6mB7Y4y9RkIoYQmtl9Fvo_HaZ9M8iPFwLy4yNgSuzGcH0uJU9cDyNAtEcZ8zgq2QTadZAQOTRP2JmSiycl2T1c-N2eNT6c2dLrdDSTRrhcvaSADfV-LWCpX-pcwZafdbFMhq34zJkIR5J58wShnWyZB2isu5Pne_d70VGTTpEAGBMxjxfYotpimN/s600/IMG_0681.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
With each bag I make, I feel like I level up a bit. Superbloom has a recessed zipper which I've never done before, and I really like how practical it is.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1ch6kzAeMvf42YPYb33AMB6syR8ZZYVVOW5fCzHlCRGxJIR6bxEZI3ozoYcwlC_ChzLiDjlJvaolJnznItmqmLN11D9m7ldc8cbycG08vSmSIhpyw7_EJri-w4eTRkYeg_DYh71HFrfrKtvBd6kOKT_0AzYa-fO3ShXXjI2QsGMazRCoPKAAOMvJUODzU/s3024/IMG_0682.HEIC" style=""><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1ch6kzAeMvf42YPYb33AMB6syR8ZZYVVOW5fCzHlCRGxJIR6bxEZI3ozoYcwlC_ChzLiDjlJvaolJnznItmqmLN11D9m7ldc8cbycG08vSmSIhpyw7_EJri-w4eTRkYeg_DYh71HFrfrKtvBd6kOKT_0AzYa-fO3ShXXjI2QsGMazRCoPKAAOMvJUODzU/s600/IMG_0682.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
There were challenging moments and choice words used during the final assembly process (as there usually was) and I had to make everything fit together which didn't seem like they went together, but when I saw the end result, it was worth it, and I now can't wait to go to my next convention with this beauty! Which will be ... in May. Still so far away!
<p></p>

Sphere is a <i>really</i> old and out-of-print collection, as it was printed before I started quilting, but I managed to hoard some here and there over the last few years.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZaBup6krb_Bep-Q2QHj-IU7SZZVFLVPTT5fFv1ldBBr1Tn13UpPtvGpz1VbxUOPEGKzxDIvi35cMlik8T21IAwfHcc98i0NfziwMhbwMbZg393-FwHeVzgchP1gF1euvAQtGb_08-n-et6waHPP-tlbKkOvkXml2B1wcYZhDGgCS7suXmG0RlLPJQiIUe/s2814/IMG_0653%20Copy.JPG" style=""><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="2814" data-original-width="2814" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZaBup6krb_Bep-Q2QHj-IU7SZZVFLVPTT5fFv1ldBBr1Tn13UpPtvGpz1VbxUOPEGKzxDIvi35cMlik8T21IAwfHcc98i0NfziwMhbwMbZg393-FwHeVzgchP1gF1euvAQtGb_08-n-et6waHPP-tlbKkOvkXml2B1wcYZhDGgCS7suXmG0RlLPJQiIUe/s600/IMG_0653%20Copy.JPG"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I especially love this pattern because of all the non-standard shapes. In fact I was quite intimidated by the pattern initially, but it was a lot easier to make than it looked, and I'm very pleased with the end result.
<p><p/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr7Shl2MHHHMtrjgW9-tsxaPHQZNsfmT774A0VRP7_GQD13NZMK_jS0TzMMYfpjv_jj1ew7NSJaBKIrfZG01SYS53R4C6fhn8IZA0dwHcBO_KIWtbz97AXoexufEVk1RwsIJ13WvhV5cAuX5rIodQR3u-QypaJMRJOZGfLu5ZF-rGQ2m4c3Xn-c99SknEt/s3024/IMG_0650%20Copy.JPG" style=""><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr7Shl2MHHHMtrjgW9-tsxaPHQZNsfmT774A0VRP7_GQD13NZMK_jS0TzMMYfpjv_jj1ew7NSJaBKIrfZG01SYS53R4C6fhn8IZA0dwHcBO_KIWtbz97AXoexufEVk1RwsIJ13WvhV5cAuX5rIodQR3u-QypaJMRJOZGfLu5ZF-rGQ2m4c3Xn-c99SknEt/s600/IMG_0650%20Copy.JPG"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I had a lot of fun quilting this! I knew I wanted to showcase the space inside the triangles with some free-motion designs, but also knew I wanted a lot of straight line echoes.
<p><p/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnen3KkBu9WFbFb3tZnhQdwaKStXBFUc7nUx1ZIqFAdgAR-kBMVB7fZ2nR4vz75rGItlohXkRrPfI0PawtcFyZQnqsMa8hMhpVWQd4YNBrVusNuuB90ZYjVj-8JDg_765mDti40pJbKStjo6zWzJgzusehSi8DGBUexcLHawvVWBNu0bn6duAajhFa_dT8/s3024/IMG_0652%20Copy.JPG" style=""><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnen3KkBu9WFbFb3tZnhQdwaKStXBFUc7nUx1ZIqFAdgAR-kBMVB7fZ2nR4vz75rGItlohXkRrPfI0PawtcFyZQnqsMa8hMhpVWQd4YNBrVusNuuB90ZYjVj-8JDg_765mDti40pJbKStjo6zWzJgzusehSi8DGBUexcLHawvVWBNu0bn6duAajhFa_dT8/s600/IMG_0652%20Copy.JPG"/></a></div>
<p></p>
The fabric strips were quilted with some wishbone designs, which is something that's relatively easy to execute on the diagonal.
<p><p/>

<p></p>
I love this quilt, and it was the perfect one to start the year. I don't know how much quilting I will accomplish this year, but given that I have no desire to piece at the moment, hopefully it means I will be able to at least make a small dent in my pile of quilt tops. Hopefully.

My first <a href="http://www.savoreverystitch.com/2017/04/tokyo-subway-map.html" target="_blank">Tokyo Subway Map</a> was the largest project I've ever quilted on my no-longer-with-me sitdown longarm, and I was (still am) very happy with it.

That was a long time ago, and I've wanted to make another Tokyo Subway Map for some time, but I didn't want to make it scrappy. Then when I saw a neon collection of solids called Phosphor by Libs Elliott, I suddenly had the idea: make a grittier version of Tokyo Subway Map on a dark gray background, and call it Tokyo Underground.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2Y4hPuWk5vKj1iREACxS-B9bsAkClSEGwiS2G5KW8dOnyg6twCPXjcNDMk_ObO0-bGns223KYJ0FFujPLTR6ozyeRaJPD4uYqOHHin36rqeiUZFQM_rSz63AYIRUi2NrGBhgzcmzbuU_hsmkVXqambNuIZnocZxhuI0UxnOA_PIxQqmeHxacJ7l1eg1RJ/s3024/IMG_0616.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2Y4hPuWk5vKj1iREACxS-B9bsAkClSEGwiS2G5KW8dOnyg6twCPXjcNDMk_ObO0-bGns223KYJ0FFujPLTR6ozyeRaJPD4uYqOHHin36rqeiUZFQM_rSz63AYIRUi2NrGBhgzcmzbuU_hsmkVXqambNuIZnocZxhuI0UxnOA_PIxQqmeHxacJ7l1eg1RJ/s600/IMG_0616.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
One thing I wanted to do differently, since I wasn't using scraps this time, was try to minimize the seams on the subway lines. To accomplish this, I had to use partial seams, but it was much easier than I originally thought it would be. I had a really good time piecing this.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5PqsAtuI8cMTPtZ26qFup_2f9KNHeofCPBflynHj1HLKVxqlKUvOS8hJijyxvNvOm5Kf7oa2afMoGNbDGv0V69RQGWefe0CZ0qGaLnfgfsc2iOJupmNKhy-WWD1HanxeImgRQoYy5zXHhB1terlNQhh0sowRE3HWYF9duuzPRqdgwd-EOg05dS8jrlpy-/s3024/IMG_0618.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5PqsAtuI8cMTPtZ26qFup_2f9KNHeofCPBflynHj1HLKVxqlKUvOS8hJijyxvNvOm5Kf7oa2afMoGNbDGv0V69RQGWefe0CZ0qGaLnfgfsc2iOJupmNKhy-WWD1HanxeImgRQoYy5zXHhB1terlNQhh0sowRE3HWYF9duuzPRqdgwd-EOg05dS8jrlpy-/s600/IMG_0618.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I knew how I wanted to quilt this while I was still piecing it. I decided to add some ghost elements in the background, because of course I had to. I don't always manage, but I try to introduce an element of interest into each quilt, and the ghost subway lines are it for this quilt.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkdIXW0_zpsR-rWVpWlgGkPTmliwtRblTO51gF9SLxknagwfYzJpZhz-D0d4Ga5W-WSgHvVoke7m8R3c9uJUunF0aXKJP4-ftIvfj1rAA7Dj19nq3NBUeAhpWPRJui3-YLUSg3XUPuFFT9Y60xc0X8CugpzWDbd5zf6gN3162-gw5ZrdlnngtfbtRhkmV0/s3024/IMG_0622.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkdIXW0_zpsR-rWVpWlgGkPTmliwtRblTO51gF9SLxknagwfYzJpZhz-D0d4Ga5W-WSgHvVoke7m8R3c9uJUunF0aXKJP4-ftIvfj1rAA7Dj19nq3NBUeAhpWPRJui3-YLUSg3XUPuFFT9Y60xc0X8CugpzWDbd5zf6gN3162-gw5ZrdlnngtfbtRhkmV0/s600/IMG_0622.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
And the background space was filled with one of my favorite designs that I rarely get to use because it's usually not right for the quilt, but is perfect for this quilt: steampunk gears! I had written a tutorial earlier on how to quilt gears <a href="http://www.savoreverystitch.com/2020/08/quilting-tutorial-steampunk-gears.html" target="_blank">here</a>.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWiLmdjhS30GK5q21RGCuB6t1xjlLepJlcHbUtKQcOwutsKGJI_h5DRJcy9XTSRP7lOaKNcUjAZBlp-nnKfs27jVC54mx267r40vdSg9arUmveIOf3BwFkx46DfhONNPqLPgV0XXre262qiHN-JDp8QnZwCMwaz7QBoQBzr5rkHUrTWPsoM7K2gEfIH4XP/s3024/IMG_0619.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWiLmdjhS30GK5q21RGCuB6t1xjlLepJlcHbUtKQcOwutsKGJI_h5DRJcy9XTSRP7lOaKNcUjAZBlp-nnKfs27jVC54mx267r40vdSg9arUmveIOf3BwFkx46DfhONNPqLPgV0XXre262qiHN-JDp8QnZwCMwaz7QBoQBzr5rkHUrTWPsoM7K2gEfIH4XP/s600/IMG_0619.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
This was definitely one of the most challenging quilts I've completed recently. The steampunk gears were quite tough to fit in all these little spaces, and there were tons and tons of starts and stops. I had to make a lot of decisions about which section to go to next, which added to a mental tax. Some quilts are easy and relaxing because the quilt path is clearly defined, but that's definitely not the case for this one!
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh12rAmK3d7oJSUsaNxdje6xgiFPR3koTV9TBrDdfU6xVSLDMBTCjoDBtOtQrPADuoNcmo5DvVWgixntWV8OhgWpxmHf-I16fE0IsHocdGaadfj54l-KMefqzclL4uMPtGCK7N7K4Hwbo2KBLU2CpqkDUAALY73GNt3NVwnhatDSCCK0-AOzEslTDAZ_-Yg/s3024/IMG_0621.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh12rAmK3d7oJSUsaNxdje6xgiFPR3koTV9TBrDdfU6xVSLDMBTCjoDBtOtQrPADuoNcmo5DvVWgixntWV8OhgWpxmHf-I16fE0IsHocdGaadfj54l-KMefqzclL4uMPtGCK7N7K4Hwbo2KBLU2CpqkDUAALY73GNt3NVwnhatDSCCK0-AOzEslTDAZ_-Yg/s600/IMG_0621.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
A lot of the time I will go for months just piecing and not machine quilt anything. For the last few months though, I've not felt like piecing at all and just wanted to quilt. (I'm not sure I've experienced this before in my entire quilting life.) I don't know how long this phase will last, but I figured while I'm in this mode, I might as well try to get as many quilt tops done as possible before they start piling up again.
<p></p>
And whew, looks like I finished it in time, this last quilt of the year. Happy New Year to all, and I wish you all a great 2024!

I had such a nice time with lots of traveling around the country and memories made with my family as well as some solo trips for myself, but after I got back home, it was really hard to get back into the longarm room.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjy2x4F1TXo8AeFpoSzn7-5rhLb8-zKUArwKpjbGbZLEu9ijFxEwk_2nfF0XyFb1i_luHV3Mq9AN6cPZRuUs2HZTpe28EePkjMkvXa_UkRrHb7-zBKUJee3VxRWlzVW6LVnF4oJzFeFgpGwKI-JGBcR1jWoiyS5HhrWZ29aTX78Wp_nNBRV6l7N5ccsmtSK/s3024/IMG_0589.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjy2x4F1TXo8AeFpoSzn7-5rhLb8-zKUArwKpjbGbZLEu9ijFxEwk_2nfF0XyFb1i_luHV3Mq9AN6cPZRuUs2HZTpe28EePkjMkvXa_UkRrHb7-zBKUJee3VxRWlzVW6LVnF4oJzFeFgpGwKI-JGBcR1jWoiyS5HhrWZ29aTX78Wp_nNBRV6l7N5ccsmtSK/s600/IMG_0589.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
After a hiatus of about 4 months, I finally started machine quilting again. All this time I didn't really know what to do with the quilt, and I kept hoping an idea would come to me. But it didn't. It wasn't until I actually started quilting that I forced myself to come up with something.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWdcb50IBY6-bzXA8XiyFFKQYWJcPIki8L-g5PJOqeFGUHQJuYZ80OrwAvK0SJ9MEBmCNcxjlUjRG6kYjmzlxx4ORCaZoPTfgvUeZepMVC-HppCpntoIR0wvHwCCttoE050BSpU0PBjYasB4PTSvjlC4s9hlxV2zJGmhxiyzJcNTAM5YraiSEkJyoBl_-R/s3024/IMG_0587.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWdcb50IBY6-bzXA8XiyFFKQYWJcPIki8L-g5PJOqeFGUHQJuYZ80OrwAvK0SJ9MEBmCNcxjlUjRG6kYjmzlxx4ORCaZoPTfgvUeZepMVC-HppCpntoIR0wvHwCCttoE050BSpU0PBjYasB4PTSvjlC4s9hlxV2zJGmhxiyzJcNTAM5YraiSEkJyoBl_-R/s600/IMG_0587.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
Rapid City is designed by Elizabeth Hartman, and the fabric collection I used is leftover from my <a href="http://www.savoreverystitch.com/2021/07/blog-hop-just-one-charm-pack-quilts.html" target="_blank">Cat's Eye</a> quilt, First of Infinity by Kumiko Fujita. This whole quilt had such a graphic and urban vibe that I knew I wanted a very simple design mostly of straight lines. I allowed one curvy design: the ribbon candy, because I just really like the way it looks across long strips.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI0jx2tIfOwD-vIyD_qH6ToO_0Ge3vXTrskhSE7uQYz6p6lo16Ape1cY2BU1IZ1_E9xo5vtMwKT6AzEt3_8fvw4szJEN9tTaybMI_IXok2vFwAAl6YRbdZBeq-N5S9CO1wL_lcXqfEFBxrDrEYs7-GWS8SIhLBRlbjNGL4OApET2Il-3xN00dSYpcu6xgv/s3024/IMG_0588.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI0jx2tIfOwD-vIyD_qH6ToO_0Ge3vXTrskhSE7uQYz6p6lo16Ape1cY2BU1IZ1_E9xo5vtMwKT6AzEt3_8fvw4szJEN9tTaybMI_IXok2vFwAAl6YRbdZBeq-N5S9CO1wL_lcXqfEFBxrDrEYs7-GWS8SIhLBRlbjNGL4OApET2Il-3xN00dSYpcu6xgv/s600/IMG_0588.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
Elizabeth's designs are always intricate looking and the cutting instructions have brought me to tears at times due to their complexity. But once the dreaded cutting is over, I always have such a good time piecing her quilts. This one was no exception!
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5KcFX8qOqn9lVhsWFkHKQkvRWfrpyrUhh6GXmokNGD_oqSltijKy43KMoe_um4XEHuZy5SBOldtoJwSVSiBeE1mLh6kOIbFAvJq-TsS14zWwjDTlZmiGvv4S6Pj7cqw7ZScO9rWIVJ39SDN2fm89oSXAWilwyPhVBI9hU37shK42L1fEeSDVav0D-NoX3/s3024/IMG_0585.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5KcFX8qOqn9lVhsWFkHKQkvRWfrpyrUhh6GXmokNGD_oqSltijKy43KMoe_um4XEHuZy5SBOldtoJwSVSiBeE1mLh6kOIbFAvJq-TsS14zWwjDTlZmiGvv4S6Pj7cqw7ZScO9rWIVJ39SDN2fm89oSXAWilwyPhVBI9hU37shK42L1fEeSDVav0D-NoX3/s600/IMG_0585.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I love the texture of the straight lines running across the white fabric, as it always looks and feels scrumptious. For the border I did a simple piano keys design. It's not something I do very often, but for this quilt, it seemed fitting.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjRrn7YhXVFoBFtfGmkHzAgd5cNLXfVQLdU4D4UfmBkMx7v4RVmHNpEzCHbVHsLCf1kwhl3TGneSpVWallF2SyzB2y9r1s6_M1BwG1caR2VLLl5rSmTardIysTFHZLTI3tqKLtyVFQYz81fv29s_gWILnVkLGPGLswQmT8pP-ahSDhq9XQhW1rMZGP_Y1B/s3024/IMG_0590.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjRrn7YhXVFoBFtfGmkHzAgd5cNLXfVQLdU4D4UfmBkMx7v4RVmHNpEzCHbVHsLCf1kwhl3TGneSpVWallF2SyzB2y9r1s6_M1BwG1caR2VLLl5rSmTardIysTFHZLTI3tqKLtyVFQYz81fv29s_gWILnVkLGPGLswQmT8pP-ahSDhq9XQhW1rMZGP_Y1B/s600/IMG_0590.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
Since I love this pattern, and I love the fabric collection, I knew I was going to love the end result as well. And I absolutely do. Hopefully with me breaking through the post-summer slump quilt hiatus, the next one won't take quite so long to finish. In fact, I think I already know what quilt I want to quilt next and exactly how to quilt it. It's another Elizabeth Hartman!Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08043276493816926286noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1790129856810440171.post-82644756899975168242023-07-26T05:00:00.014-05:002023-10-12T10:17:15.898-05:00More Fishies ~ Just Two Charm Pack Quilts Blog HopI've been a lot less active in the quilting community over the last few years, choosing to let quilting become just a hobby for myself, and instead focusing most of my attention and efforts on other endeavors. However, when Cheryl Brickey asked me to participate in a <a href="https://meadowmistdesigns.blogspot.com/2023/07/day-1-just-two-charm-pack-quilts-book.html" target="_blank">blog hop</a> to promote her latest book, <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Just-Two-Charm-Pack-Quilts/dp/1644033739/ref=sr_1_1?crid=20FVGO20K1X37" target="_blank">Just Two Charm Pack Quilts</a>, I was excited to do it.

I've made a lot of Cheryl's patterns over the years so I knew it was going to be a good time. Her patterns are always clear, well-written, and the end results are always great.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB77F9CegE2YSmJ1kXcCHqQZoom5nnn4rRqiY6PAQNa3IP_jVkLCpxW6i5ZR_h612SRS_DQhjpK4twEJJjLOwqAEBQvfKQ1mr3rJOjDNvkWM9X1ghZS7zJ6Ruyr47hgXWwvm1oHQhx-ZpA4-zyRL1nfDU7sUKhULMiXrrJ1XtUnPzZbf1yeatc87g2xQ/s3024/IMG_0488%20Copy.JPG"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB77F9CegE2YSmJ1kXcCHqQZoom5nnn4rRqiY6PAQNa3IP_jVkLCpxW6i5ZR_h612SRS_DQhjpK4twEJJjLOwqAEBQvfKQ1mr3rJOjDNvkWM9X1ghZS7zJ6Ruyr47hgXWwvm1oHQhx-ZpA4-zyRL1nfDU7sUKhULMiXrrJ1XtUnPzZbf1yeatc87g2xQ/s600/IMG_0488%20Copy.JPG"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I fell in love with More Fishies as soon as I saw it because it was so adorable. Even though it was assembled on the bias and I'm not generally a fan of that, I really wanted to make it. The only "new" fabric I used is a single charm pack, True Blue from Zen Chic, and the rest of the fabric is from my scraps. I had a lot of Kona turqoise due to frequently using it as a backing fabric, so that was the perfect background for the ocean for my fishies.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB7shud7Dmsoth4JJxD46now1R8nCeqnoxUtDqOETMJsL0ndsB9DLGXhbw0_i7w_8a4y_JzH54UpoRbpF8C_sbraooH_fwtXD_Hk75r5eImAcToFNz1lHj3MD_F6WBIe6lKG0UgWU4nbmFpcIidfYi5-7YhocjQZLBNs5tA2-miUUvlhsHrQphiqvLag/s3024/IMG_0493%20Copy.JPG"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB7shud7Dmsoth4JJxD46now1R8nCeqnoxUtDqOETMJsL0ndsB9DLGXhbw0_i7w_8a4y_JzH54UpoRbpF8C_sbraooH_fwtXD_Hk75r5eImAcToFNz1lHj3MD_F6WBIe6lKG0UgWU4nbmFpcIidfYi5-7YhocjQZLBNs5tA2-miUUvlhsHrQphiqvLag/s600/IMG_0493%20Copy.JPG"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I knew I wanted a wavy design for the background, but I didn't want to do it over the entire background as it would be boring and my machine would hate me. (It really doesn't like this design.) So I sort of gave the fishies their own little swirl bubbles, and filled the rest of the background space with the wavy design.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgneZCKXgXhnlgYChWsoiR07F7AG3C9PsZYm2XvGXC9uUvPz4F7YvG7v7Yf3GvQFX--WzgKWgJCpzvWEkQN9xEgkUXZmBd90iV4kuaZnNSpVz65j4APRD0LpHR4560j6p5FdXpmJ8vz0IhJf2ehk6zDJflvpXu7CTeoNoCY6I8044K_ChzHS4w7cjFMkQ/s3024/IMG_0487%20Copy.JPG"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgneZCKXgXhnlgYChWsoiR07F7AG3C9PsZYm2XvGXC9uUvPz4F7YvG7v7Yf3GvQFX--WzgKWgJCpzvWEkQN9xEgkUXZmBd90iV4kuaZnNSpVz65j4APRD0LpHR4560j6p5FdXpmJ8vz0IhJf2ehk6zDJflvpXu7CTeoNoCY6I8044K_ChzHS4w7cjFMkQ/s600/IMG_0487%20Copy.JPG"/></a></div>
<p></p>
The fishies themselves asked for minimal quilting, so I did just a simple geometric design to nail the fabric down, but I didn't want to make it too literal by quilting fish features or anything.

The wavy design is one of my favorites, but I had trouble with it for a long time because I just didn't really know what to do. After this quilt though, I can finally say I'm quite comfortable with this design! Unfortunately my machine still doesn't like it, so in the future when I use it I will still have to be judicious about it.

I really love everything about this quilt, from the fabric, to the quilting design, and even the binding was exciting. This one is definitely a keeper.

I found the pattern in the book Striped Quilts Made Modern by Lauren Palmer, but I really wanted to use my Hex N More ruler so I did my own version, but the idea is definitely based on the book.

<p></p>
I hadn't seen this quilt top in years, so I was rather surprised when I pulled it out because it was a <i>lot</i> bigger than I thought. The hexagons were also huge compared to how I remembered them! However, I decided to treat this quilt as a sampler of hexagon quilting, and try out a lot of different designs.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXoSfbB6uDTPwN1_o2pWdBNiL5S3JIWtu6qyanW-dc_NOo9P8ir1sZYIxb4K0pl2qg5p1dkAN0e2fhLaOueDCCW2dRJ8Oi8nvJNlAC2hoznwA3tj9Tohjp2YhGI3brml9hiCI-UWIUMPpGopwwXoJx4CCGvgykIl3MX_ITdoGSuSF5f6qx5JEiyoG0sA/s3024/IMG_0478%20Copy.JPG" ><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXoSfbB6uDTPwN1_o2pWdBNiL5S3JIWtu6qyanW-dc_NOo9P8ir1sZYIxb4K0pl2qg5p1dkAN0e2fhLaOueDCCW2dRJ8Oi8nvJNlAC2hoznwA3tj9Tohjp2YhGI3brml9hiCI-UWIUMPpGopwwXoJx4CCGvgykIl3MX_ITdoGSuSF5f6qx5JEiyoG0sA/s600/IMG_0478%20Copy.JPG"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I sat down and just kept drawing and drawing until I came up with over 2 dozen designs. However, when I actually started quilting, I found myself making adjustments as some things that sound great on paper just don't work on quilting. I also came up with several spur-of-the-moment designs in the midst of quilting, and I'm pretty happy with how they turned out!
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiZmYdQFGPniKdh9_Kxw5ZkH6hB_e9fJ2ilaVMQhRXYSm9p46zIqBWl_B24TIE4BvucqmPdFmUjjtoiGHo9G6L2_6KYqPxO_1G-C7KYS4xYwQ7hZiQnqRL7ZjHG5jILnJoO7W00HFiZjyCg5d-OqL7ggKBwS5wBm8Dyx5iBwdUh9083whPV0Fjc1vYqQ/s3024/IMG_0477%20Copy.JPG" style=" "><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiZmYdQFGPniKdh9_Kxw5ZkH6hB_e9fJ2ilaVMQhRXYSm9p46zIqBWl_B24TIE4BvucqmPdFmUjjtoiGHo9G6L2_6KYqPxO_1G-C7KYS4xYwQ7hZiQnqRL7ZjHG5jILnJoO7W00HFiZjyCg5d-OqL7ggKBwS5wBm8Dyx5iBwdUh9083whPV0Fjc1vYqQ/s600/IMG_0477%20Copy.JPG"/></a></div>
<p></p>
To keep this quilt from taking forever to finish, I mostly picked simpler geometric designs, and occasionally sprinkled in a block where I quilted it a bit more densely.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVWRFegF8ftTlIMH4SUTbJdljdYqU-J02CiUwmo2joabgxVd0Lc9U8fQLQGCP23p-tbKDzuKycN-r2xNi8XQs9yVojaHSFki9YsxM_0NLuAbAfGrYOTSl5wUtJoBB8qS9fzleLp6h8PnfngGxs5h8DoxtL5P4j-TNArm-_4Go2dkwlVBqluCR1L42RRQ/s3024/IMG_0476%20Copy.JPG" style=""><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVWRFegF8ftTlIMH4SUTbJdljdYqU-J02CiUwmo2joabgxVd0Lc9U8fQLQGCP23p-tbKDzuKycN-r2xNi8XQs9yVojaHSFki9YsxM_0NLuAbAfGrYOTSl5wUtJoBB8qS9fzleLp6h8PnfngGxs5h8DoxtL5P4j-TNArm-_4Go2dkwlVBqluCR1L42RRQ/s600/IMG_0476%20Copy.JPG"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I really like how this quilt turned out, and it was such a fun exercise to try out all these different designs in solid colors.

I had already made one quilt, <a target="_blank" href="http://www.savoreverystitch.com/2017/03/yoyogi-park-quilt.html">Yoyogi Park</a> from it, but still had quite a bit left over. When I saw the pattern Plus Squared by Quilty Love, I knew it was just perfect for it.

<p></p>
This was a very easy and pleasant piecing job, as all of Quilty Love's patterns tend to be. I had a good and relaxing time during the piecing process while enjoying the adorable fabric.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTGKIFLirKuC5X9cYv02ko3zUObCGNuAbx6ueKFU7Mao578XgrgonYaBr1lxdrSkpRZS1_9B4-iAH-C8XhGkTjZ-D7UP1d-70L2Kfr0hIaciEwJnGKSwHR1qx2WBi9MbEz_TRzpe7c9Z6SnPNZ5oT9GYSKGn3Onw2PDYrtLmMzdIUNDYj_ynACPhVgEg/s3024/IMG_0451.HEIC" style=""><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTGKIFLirKuC5X9cYv02ko3zUObCGNuAbx6ueKFU7Mao578XgrgonYaBr1lxdrSkpRZS1_9B4-iAH-C8XhGkTjZ-D7UP1d-70L2Kfr0hIaciEwJnGKSwHR1qx2WBi9MbEz_TRzpe7c9Z6SnPNZ5oT9GYSKGn3Onw2PDYrtLmMzdIUNDYj_ynACPhVgEg/s600/IMG_0451.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
When it came to quilting it, I was excited by all the negative spaces which were perfect canvases for some fun motifs. I knew just what I wanted to use though: a square spiral design, which is always mesmerizing to look at.
<p></p>

<p></p>
I did a very simple dot-to-dot quilting for the blocks, as that was all they needed.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNIIZPb9bI5QWc4Xs0JsxvfIgvBMeqxsacXQyN9gjpYFrqweEikOHQHwQ1Cbl8wqMMRDlsqxbpoJI29JNCDoj8QNLTO62wWr0SkM5nTJBSM22oumfSyUXB3SA-iipQD-WObJDfOCh4gBFhB3099DBOwYFyJo00jBDgffniVoljzZhxI1r2JiOzkF6Dxg/s3024/IMG_0454.HEIC" style=""><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNIIZPb9bI5QWc4Xs0JsxvfIgvBMeqxsacXQyN9gjpYFrqweEikOHQHwQ1Cbl8wqMMRDlsqxbpoJI29JNCDoj8QNLTO62wWr0SkM5nTJBSM22oumfSyUXB3SA-iipQD-WObJDfOCh4gBFhB3099DBOwYFyJo00jBDgffniVoljzZhxI1r2JiOzkF6Dxg/s600/IMG_0454.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I'm really happy with this quilt, rather more than the original Yoyogi Park which was made 6 years ago. It's hard to believe it's been so long!
<p></p>

Well, very few quilts ever become a 5, and even if they do, I very rarely finish them because I find it tough to finish my favorites! But I decided to pull out a 5 for my first quilt of the year, and Peaks is it.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPZ-OjHErn0Oy0I8zO4Khw37DxEebU1TUycUBlFIX2NBI_tC0yG9weP8dIC6N7kXC-F9rLc8iXU9jMCmfoHnsxNwTTbLJGGrAbnD5zE0DSoC_8k3gAjh8nN2WjwfGBlZXxPh75nXUQ_Nf023XU8V2I0BnfBNXKalOBVNNV3XDA5IrTgk1wEV8LL90trQ/s3024/IMG_0429.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPZ-OjHErn0Oy0I8zO4Khw37DxEebU1TUycUBlFIX2NBI_tC0yG9weP8dIC6N7kXC-F9rLc8iXU9jMCmfoHnsxNwTTbLJGGrAbnD5zE0DSoC_8k3gAjh8nN2WjwfGBlZXxPh75nXUQ_Nf023XU8V2I0BnfBNXKalOBVNNV3XDA5IrTgk1wEV8LL90trQ/s600/IMG_0429.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
In fact, Peaks is not only a 5-star quilt for me, but it's also one of my absolute favorites that I've <i>ever</i> made. It's a combination of the pattern, the fabric (both designed by Natalie Barnes) and of course, some wonderful memories I have attached to the piecing of this quilt that makes it such a special quilt to me.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizPmoH4hoOgbtce5Qd9lbTcoRBA4wpUmiqjwpYXQZauewFz7A8-p4y9mXy14eOdcMeKN0-PXdCBTa0BUIRQoFDvRZOxmfFe2JulliS9QLW3PNk0g_zbUzqDZRFDsIP-2w5WG3XmSHhChNRGEBg6dBRbdHUJoveKFb-qEd2P9NoiqZ7_AWbTW2fgIxTGA/s3024/IMG_0434.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizPmoH4hoOgbtce5Qd9lbTcoRBA4wpUmiqjwpYXQZauewFz7A8-p4y9mXy14eOdcMeKN0-PXdCBTa0BUIRQoFDvRZOxmfFe2JulliS9QLW3PNk0g_zbUzqDZRFDsIP-2w5WG3XmSHhChNRGEBg6dBRbdHUJoveKFb-qEd2P9NoiqZ7_AWbTW2fgIxTGA/s600/IMG_0434.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I bought the kit for this quilt on a whim because I loved it so much, but I didn't make it for awhile because I was intimidated by its seeming complexity. I then ran into Natalie at a quilt show, and after chatting with her, she assured me I could do it. And after I got home, I did! It turned out a lot easier than I expected, and the whole piecing experience was so fun too.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0h9XjrL_-z8dg-FMcX1uPW6tUQ3P5CYaLN5ANzJ1pv9o-3YnPt1HLzN3KJQcspmk8_bR-E2BKttciLjuy6YSUYHR7x3iYuwDBivTnOOkulxKFcjc-N7v1b90jaQO2cUl8RG4IOEPXs4hwPaeRB84E-6Hw_OYv-PSl9e_Dj6Vo56YZXqPXcah8lL_DNA/s3024/IMG_0435.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0h9XjrL_-z8dg-FMcX1uPW6tUQ3P5CYaLN5ANzJ1pv9o-3YnPt1HLzN3KJQcspmk8_bR-E2BKttciLjuy6YSUYHR7x3iYuwDBivTnOOkulxKFcjc-N7v1b90jaQO2cUl8RG4IOEPXs4hwPaeRB84E-6Hw_OYv-PSl9e_Dj6Vo56YZXqPXcah8lL_DNA/s600/IMG_0435.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
After I got Peaks on the frames, I stared at it for a long time, unsure of what to do. I haven't experienced drawing a complete blank on what to quilt for a very long time, but I think the stakes for this quilt is oh-so-high because I love it oh-so-much.

I ended up deciding that each type of block will get a certain quilting design, and there are only a few different types of blocks: small squares, medium squares, large squares, and spike blocks, and I picked a different design for each type of block.

I had no idea what the final quilt will look like when I started it, but trusted that if I just applied this quilting design consistently across the quilt, it will turn out alright. And it did turn out beautiful! I absolutely love it.

I'm so happy I finished this quilt, and I'll call it now, this is probably already my favorite finish of the year. It's hard to imagine topping it!Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08043276493816926286noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1790129856810440171.post-20706455213568930502023-02-19T12:45:00.001-06:002023-02-19T12:45:06.768-06:00Harpa ~ A Knitting Finish, FinallyI haven't posted about knitting in a few years, despite my initial intention to make this blog about <i>all</i> my creative pursuits, but it's mostly because I haven't done much knitting for a few years. However, lately I've finally started knitting again, and I'm finding one of my favorite ways to relax is actually putting on a record and knitting. (Yes, record. I had no idea that vinyls are hot amongst millennials right now until recently, I guess I'm just following a trend I wasn't aware of.)
<p></p>
Nowadays, I mostly knit scarves exclusively because I don't have to worry about the size so much. Harpa by Cirilia Rose is a project I started more than 3 and a half years ago, though I finished about 80% of it in the last 6 months. It was a looong project because I could only do a few rows at a time.
<p></p>

I really started to get excited about this project once the pattern started coming out, but I was still filled with a lot of doubts and concerns as I went on, several times being tempted to give up. But I'm glad I didn't, because I love the end result! Like quilting, most of the concerns we have while working on a project disappear when it's done.

This scarf is probably my warmest ever, because it has 4 layers of fabric! I suppose it's a good thing there are a few more weeks of winter left here in Chicagoland, so I might have a chance to use it.Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08043276493816926286noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1790129856810440171.post-24776356194593731862022-12-14T00:00:00.000-06:002022-12-14T00:00:00.209-06:00Zen GardenWhen I started quilting a few years ago, I quickly decided that Brigitte Heitland of Zen Chic was my favorite fabric designer. I went on a mad hunt to try to get fabric from each of her collections, including the out-of-print ones from the days before I knew what a quilt even was.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsHHVBUBy2xWuCMi5zD1ZseILGV2kxs0OUtpwWH-QnCX65dfW5nE0fA3uJE0VEdGdzi0NtwtBB2BAhGP0A2GlBHCNbIG1kEC7hViKjAs13_gCnV7ioH4hFf-uutG5TyHblY-VW_necW3bY7KjYNScQnmtZY40TACH5dQhyTKoFvM1YlGMwYJdgiWSP4g/s3024/IMG_0356.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsHHVBUBy2xWuCMi5zD1ZseILGV2kxs0OUtpwWH-QnCX65dfW5nE0fA3uJE0VEdGdzi0NtwtBB2BAhGP0A2GlBHCNbIG1kEC7hViKjAs13_gCnV7ioH4hFf-uutG5TyHblY-VW_necW3bY7KjYNScQnmtZY40TACH5dQhyTKoFvM1YlGMwYJdgiWSP4g/s600/IMG_0356.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
And I succeeded ... I got a little bit of everything. One of those collections that I snagged was Juggling Summer, which is probably one of her earliest collections. However, after I got it, I realized that I had no clue what to do with it. I wasn't even sure I liked it, but it caused a great amount of stash guilt. I had to do something with it.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2-LDy0tLyLhtPQmsoylG5DAY2uiQv4eywvPPDQv5ewryzRvYv16R_pvJVcwk4bOvxbor-HLd8RSmfCNHK6LB9c9v1WzN1CFC_dLGXThOFIYEdIW3T6V2UMLxG7IEVhNSFhMGKgq1QEOxPB4dwvm1MUIzQ5lcTCXAvZ77u71mr0HhL0-BLSHlcWuuzKg/s3024/IMG_0361.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2-LDy0tLyLhtPQmsoylG5DAY2uiQv4eywvPPDQv5ewryzRvYv16R_pvJVcwk4bOvxbor-HLd8RSmfCNHK6LB9c9v1WzN1CFC_dLGXThOFIYEdIW3T6V2UMLxG7IEVhNSFhMGKgq1QEOxPB4dwvm1MUIzQ5lcTCXAvZ77u71mr0HhL0-BLSHlcWuuzKg/s600/IMG_0361.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
One day while randomly browsing, I found a quilt pattern that used Juggling Summer in a way that I actually liked! It was a pattern called Zen Garden by <a href="https://colorgirlquilts.com/" target="_blank">Color Girl Quilts</a>. This quilt was super easy to piece, and I liked how despite the chaotic color arrangement, the zigzags that weave through the quilt bring a sense of ... structure.
<p></p>

<p></p>
Since the fabric is so busy, I kept the quilting super simple for this quilt, with just a few alternating geometric designs and straight lines.
<p></p>

<p></p>
Zen Garden is my 7th and final finish of the year, and it was a very fun, easy, and relaxing quilt to make. It helped relieve some stash guilt, and also served a reminder to me that simple quilting can be effective too!

I've made so many quilts with it, including <a href="http://www.savoreverystitch.com/2020/10/fragile.html">Fragile</a>, <a href="http://www.savoreverystitch.com/2018/12/paradox.html">Paradox</a>, and <a href="http://www.savoreverystitch.com/2018/01/critical-sunshine.html">Critical Sunshine</a>, and that's just the ones I've finished quilting! What can I say, I'm a sucker for black and gold.

Ikat was one of those quilts that I really wanted to have, but not necessarily to make. Piecing this quilt was a royal pain, due to the jelly rolls. But once I was done with it, I really loved the quilt top, and I knew it'd be as fun to quilt as it was a pain to piece.

<p></p>
Since the fabric is quite busy, I kept the quilting very simple in most of the blocks with just dot-to-dot quilting.
<p></p>

I decided to quilt all the white based blocks differently with some swirls. However, this was a real challenge on some of those blocks because I couldn't really see what I was doing.

I absolutely love, love, love this quilt! However, I'm done with jelly rolls. Once I get through my current stash (which will admittedly take awhile) I will probably never buy any more ... at least not from Moda. The pretty jelly roll packages are such a siren song, so I hope I can resist in the future! May this blog post serve a reminder to me, though ...

(So far, maybe I'm succeeding at a 1.3 : 1 ratio, but baby steps). The quilt I chose to quilt next is Feathered Star, a pattern by Rebecca Bryan using a fabric line called Geogram by Samarra Khaja.

<p></p>
I vaguely remembered posting about completing the quilt top for <a href="http://www.savoreverystitch.com/2018/07/feathered-star-ready-to-quilt.html">Feathered Star</a> so I went searching for it ... and dates don't lie, this quilt top is just over 4 years old! Even though a long time has passed, I still remember it as a pretty challenging project at the time.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjj2l6fVuPtt0rLjCPOkqnF2aSKU8Pw2gDUpAD85TxhQjNaDe3DLUjzKmRMOANoiv542Gz2Hlc0XeLgeR_k0cM2VVwzMyQfcdA2AZi3aA4a3fcgUEoUHg5QCDI6B6XGi1Q37z8VgP0wlTNKVo5qfQ1GDV2TiNMwCrAkS5GhFo1kclsq70wESWs1WI1k0g/s3024/IMG_0327.HEIC" style=""><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjj2l6fVuPtt0rLjCPOkqnF2aSKU8Pw2gDUpAD85TxhQjNaDe3DLUjzKmRMOANoiv542Gz2Hlc0XeLgeR_k0cM2VVwzMyQfcdA2AZi3aA4a3fcgUEoUHg5QCDI6B6XGi1Q37z8VgP0wlTNKVo5qfQ1GDV2TiNMwCrAkS5GhFo1kclsq70wESWs1WI1k0g/s600/IMG_0327.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
But even though piecing this was hard, quilting it was pretty straightforward. I kept the quilting extremely simple in the stars because the print is so busy.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYpf0L6hfw069g_KUKCG4h0WycQHB3RqDlV1klnh3JY9guntLLwwuZQbQJcMWH3yUIchk7ZczbKbCvKXEA7bl_8hf3-CE7xNfqIuy83mvy_MvJ0vuCvZy95lTW7qJAQC0_k26YaPcUYyBX7fMddq16QWSdVVfDfr1HFS1SaauhmMjvAJOZDtePiA9XeQ/s3024/IMG_0325.HEIC" style=""><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYpf0L6hfw069g_KUKCG4h0WycQHB3RqDlV1klnh3JY9guntLLwwuZQbQJcMWH3yUIchk7ZczbKbCvKXEA7bl_8hf3-CE7xNfqIuy83mvy_MvJ0vuCvZy95lTW7qJAQC0_k26YaPcUYyBX7fMddq16QWSdVVfDfr1HFS1SaauhmMjvAJOZDtePiA9XeQ/s600/IMG_0325.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
In the diamonds, it was a chance to do some free-motion quilting. The original pattern had this space as black, but I knew black isn't nearly as fun to quilt, so I substituted a light gray.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0ivLL5sw0nCRwTkiFQHAl52St9NSnZ69xodVVKbArCUY0IwSpUud46ij2ka6iBV6kgCgXFOqfCMZvAvv-EWN0nuZNJuc_y3rG5FMeeK5W4E5twcRFkdn7uawcn7OSuB3hsLN2zIMhSIbST9u-T7s5GVs_vQh9DOCD4F8uI_u0_Pyf2mBg11uO2T-ilQ/s3024/IMG_0326%20Copy.JPG" style=""><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0ivLL5sw0nCRwTkiFQHAl52St9NSnZ69xodVVKbArCUY0IwSpUud46ij2ka6iBV6kgCgXFOqfCMZvAvv-EWN0nuZNJuc_y3rG5FMeeK5W4E5twcRFkdn7uawcn7OSuB3hsLN2zIMhSIbST9u-T7s5GVs_vQh9DOCD4F8uI_u0_Pyf2mBg11uO2T-ilQ/s600/IMG_0326%20Copy.JPG"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I was a bit hesitant about this quilt top when I first finished it, because I wasn't sure light gray was the right call for those diamonds as opposed to the extremely striking impression that black diamonds would have made, but I do like the end result a lot!
<p></p>

The pattern is so graphic and the Kona solids so vibrant, the minute I saw it, I knew I had to make it!
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-_zP5XWiB2aoc7LXdNuY0PVw4Q_qxMxUZujkWU5ZyOcoJqylssyG3Ow0dy5vRJF9y5kz4eRTMyt9XPuXmMdjpBRLoOZLLs6Vw1DyNfL5ouI4R-IaHolLHqFG-OO-JdtmsnhE5UXpRJkkb44CDzVxIniqQuqUimL6LjstglJzTin-7k5-B6O1rSHFlJA/s3024/IMG_0315.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-_zP5XWiB2aoc7LXdNuY0PVw4Q_qxMxUZujkWU5ZyOcoJqylssyG3Ow0dy5vRJF9y5kz4eRTMyt9XPuXmMdjpBRLoOZLLs6Vw1DyNfL5ouI4R-IaHolLHqFG-OO-JdtmsnhE5UXpRJkkb44CDzVxIniqQuqUimL6LjstglJzTin-7k5-B6O1rSHFlJA/s600/IMG_0315.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I was quite excited to quilt this because blue background means I can use blue thread. I use a light yellow thread about 90% of the time, so it's very exciting to use another color. Another reason I pulled this quilt out is that I was just dying to use one of my favorite designs that I hadn't done in a long time: the wavy design.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEis-Iv6n67NLh95M3T5PZ4creZmOVUogb91e3qnjASQJT8AzawHlhNd33-rmxWxqFSFnP8BaGuHNyf0iO_GdCEFwumKdO0OsV_BvOlfmeDUbFwBq4ZHQyejKSD3FrrClOfNV-_aRGaZXJNcH_Et1jHrrCULEHEw12gTB3va-6fcs64cSKY5N3W231iGxQ/s3024/IMG_0318.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEis-Iv6n67NLh95M3T5PZ4creZmOVUogb91e3qnjASQJT8AzawHlhNd33-rmxWxqFSFnP8BaGuHNyf0iO_GdCEFwumKdO0OsV_BvOlfmeDUbFwBq4ZHQyejKSD3FrrClOfNV-_aRGaZXJNcH_Et1jHrrCULEHEw12gTB3va-6fcs64cSKY5N3W231iGxQ/s600/IMG_0318.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
Besides the waves that encompass most of the quilt, I also used a Greek tile design and a ribbon candy.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjyTpf_M8CZORp99XiBdCmdBX6swCmBILoIY4cMvE_HXqncJJ1hGDG6nW8_IGfaMtmZq_-kqDzgoEsybfqT40ajKMQGAaYus5kW2a52k8pEVr_tq4c6ufrCVFeCKqjwpGIdEL32S1hm6A_wugA4EChO6HHjF8vAeZbaaBXYeK_-l_5kl7hOoRpRgSR5g/s3024/IMG_0320.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjyTpf_M8CZORp99XiBdCmdBX6swCmBILoIY4cMvE_HXqncJJ1hGDG6nW8_IGfaMtmZq_-kqDzgoEsybfqT40ajKMQGAaYus5kW2a52k8pEVr_tq4c6ufrCVFeCKqjwpGIdEL32S1hm6A_wugA4EChO6HHjF8vAeZbaaBXYeK_-l_5kl7hOoRpRgSR5g/s600/IMG_0320.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I didn't want to quilt all over the foreground stripes, so I echoed them minimally and echoed that same effect in the background.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgUpNYZVb9opdUoPzlYCX3rxc-7Y6wePb99vYCB6xFksXom_FGUfjWk1va-HXC1A2JZ-voQZUAKmQYsx0BO9wfSpC-36o_auKKi-yN_bJHqMOBBhMWKdV-f6kIcwCxLRwdshrxenGS6C4Hw6VObi6L3r4X_kdq-MXB9XJ7owqkHNP6j4abdeQ_Dn6lbw/s3024/IMG_0314.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgUpNYZVb9opdUoPzlYCX3rxc-7Y6wePb99vYCB6xFksXom_FGUfjWk1va-HXC1A2JZ-voQZUAKmQYsx0BO9wfSpC-36o_auKKi-yN_bJHqMOBBhMWKdV-f6kIcwCxLRwdshrxenGS6C4Hw6VObi6L3r4X_kdq-MXB9XJ7owqkHNP6j4abdeQ_Dn6lbw/s600/IMG_0314.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
Sometimes a quilt asks to be quilted, and sometimes I just really want to do a design and picked the quilt best suited for it. This is the latter case, and I really love the final look!

I barely remembered what it looked like, so when I pulled it out of the pile to finish it, it looked ... well, like all the colors of the rainbow dumped into a quilt. It is <i>bright</i>.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGgMrpghGCpW7zf5wx0xW4NjpHjIoPzPWuKzHC5VuUCJOvOAWFBZRZybXlxBM54joACPVU30OEi7W2GuAnvs3fSMKEDSoHsmlr8HN2ClCLouIFinRE6NR8BsLHcr8f5Tur5cXeKMju-hqUeqBd6K29-koY6iSfYXAyvBlcJRAfPiydhI2pEbEFFKgFPQ/s3024/IMG_0296.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGgMrpghGCpW7zf5wx0xW4NjpHjIoPzPWuKzHC5VuUCJOvOAWFBZRZybXlxBM54joACPVU30OEi7W2GuAnvs3fSMKEDSoHsmlr8HN2ClCLouIFinRE6NR8BsLHcr8f5Tur5cXeKMju-hqUeqBd6K29-koY6iSfYXAyvBlcJRAfPiydhI2pEbEFFKgFPQ/s600/IMG_0296.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
The pattern is Alternative by Alison Glass, and the fabric I used is a combination of Insignia (hence the name of the quilt) and some fabrics from her other lines. It's a big mish-mash of colors, but for some reason it works.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6ZH0dbeJs46JSqMCn6ibdkUIeX6z-xGH1mrNZxrVp3-05eeLcwVhsTCudYZ5_PvMNr33nU0O4ZwH9Jsn5mZQa1cTqVlGFD_xYhpoddG_goUyrRC3cPpklmf9Aqho3RjpnS0_wJFJoXxtQFdcpyJotVbGgFphMqefq0BINMinPunDflRb2OkYML778wg/s3024/IMG_0298.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6ZH0dbeJs46JSqMCn6ibdkUIeX6z-xGH1mrNZxrVp3-05eeLcwVhsTCudYZ5_PvMNr33nU0O4ZwH9Jsn5mZQa1cTqVlGFD_xYhpoddG_goUyrRC3cPpklmf9Aqho3RjpnS0_wJFJoXxtQFdcpyJotVbGgFphMqefq0BINMinPunDflRb2OkYML778wg/s600/IMG_0298.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I had a really hard time figuring out how to quilt this, which is part of the reason it stayed on the shelves for years. But I realized I was never going to come up with something without forcing myself to, so I loaded it and then just drew out a design. I used a combination of plume feathers and a geometric design in the blocks, and tied it together by using one of my favorite designs in long strips: just straight lines.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf1kaVsG-pVxZxW6vRzZBpAG30ar78YcbJQraPCweJXn3cmNr42PC0UzJIuHpqxPduncCOMSZ_FsrAZOMqtEtQ6dhECPz_BTc7I2qvOOPgrwjrsEUjSxD4iL5fV6jUsCmmKnBpCADu3R3oD4VD9Vnjt5XjjTFApMZsSN3LWyfkV4VSgYGH4bLnuAit9Q/s3024/IMG_0301.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf1kaVsG-pVxZxW6vRzZBpAG30ar78YcbJQraPCweJXn3cmNr42PC0UzJIuHpqxPduncCOMSZ_FsrAZOMqtEtQ6dhECPz_BTc7I2qvOOPgrwjrsEUjSxD4iL5fV6jUsCmmKnBpCADu3R3oD4VD9Vnjt5XjjTFApMZsSN3LWyfkV4VSgYGH4bLnuAit9Q/s600/IMG_0301.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I used to be possessed by the need to quilt every quilt to death, but in the last few years I've definitely felt that weight lift and now I let the quilt tell me whether it wants to be simple or intricate. This quilt chose something in-between, and I'm very happy with how it looks.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRL0ARx-VP99LGdHLWnpc8ly_f7IxuB4d2QfxoBifK-cbK-tkCTfOIAX8D4aT2h3SIrfzTb4kfIiHV0rPkXnPjKXTUILrOzwGmw-dRgQi29TLnnnLY-nWJ63HpObweW7fZDpEwI5Pjr43wIdSoWEqyl_Dmibl3fnpHZ_ZOUZBb_ijXt-Gos07xhO14Tg/s3024/IMG_0299.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRL0ARx-VP99LGdHLWnpc8ly_f7IxuB4d2QfxoBifK-cbK-tkCTfOIAX8D4aT2h3SIrfzTb4kfIiHV0rPkXnPjKXTUILrOzwGmw-dRgQi29TLnnnLY-nWJ63HpObweW7fZDpEwI5Pjr43wIdSoWEqyl_Dmibl3fnpHZ_ZOUZBb_ijXt-Gos07xhO14Tg/s600/IMG_0299.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
When I look at this quilt, it's just so bright that it raises my spirits! I'm thrilled to have finished this "oldie" and I'm excited to quilt more of them in the months to come.

After taking a long break from quilting this year, I decided it's finally time to finish this quilt.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi4RGvk_SAAEqUPLoh1l0TpklA0-kUClRNm0fsvw2x9vJu4Lu7nTP8sUhhBEU7pZCSLb0AA9dGEMPR11pzFJpN7bMJIQ6WODli-rXfVWYzqaQiXhNmgibpX88JZZcU5CDVwYn3ocxXaw1DQ0chANULlt8B9O8JLkDZ4SpJpYfgwWR8aDvICCVoUf4brQ/s3024/IMG_0289.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi4RGvk_SAAEqUPLoh1l0TpklA0-kUClRNm0fsvw2x9vJu4Lu7nTP8sUhhBEU7pZCSLb0AA9dGEMPR11pzFJpN7bMJIQ6WODli-rXfVWYzqaQiXhNmgibpX88JZZcU5CDVwYn3ocxXaw1DQ0chANULlt8B9O8JLkDZ4SpJpYfgwWR8aDvICCVoUf4brQ/s600/IMG_0289.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I really love this quilt because the Crescent fabric is so cute with its owls, yet it's not juvenile at all. The chain link look is very graphic and this pattern is just perfect to show off a charm pack!
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHl7BCgCtSdr2HnExKdegifAFV9UOUO6OqOe9HiY-QfDbHIZb-qQpl5dJOxl2v6PmNRAzVbG-6z68oKhe9riPuLJUhM91tf0uh2JuVV8eo0EqTQ3YVbIYl0PZIUDQCgwa-qZItOEXY1vaNir403ULG7KarUEMIZx1qldvzSxL7B0SgqvK8bLxhApOlhA/s3024/IMG_0290.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHl7BCgCtSdr2HnExKdegifAFV9UOUO6OqOe9HiY-QfDbHIZb-qQpl5dJOxl2v6PmNRAzVbG-6z68oKhe9riPuLJUhM91tf0uh2JuVV8eo0EqTQ3YVbIYl0PZIUDQCgwa-qZItOEXY1vaNir403ULG7KarUEMIZx1qldvzSxL7B0SgqvK8bLxhApOlhA/s600/IMG_0290.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
Using alternate designs is one of my favorite things to do, because it lessens the workload and keeps things interesting. Here, in the background space I alternated between dot-to-dot geometric designs (very quick to execute) and swirls (not as quick but the texture is so lovely).
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7zBL7f1C12UhEqmMnD7pFFYX3LJPhfaF0fm99JWYesteAgzUOqFU8gfDw4wHcISxQLvclyCoC8hIBOEpQKHszvPcAwSAnLDjc3Q4Hh-YWzBOz3v8U64Zn_sB5XdfBwXKScRGGXgRRaxlZEj6227TyadThgu0H-3E8wvmdPOImsfC2lgbxQHRnTXzltg/s3024/IMG_0287.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7zBL7f1C12UhEqmMnD7pFFYX3LJPhfaF0fm99JWYesteAgzUOqFU8gfDw4wHcISxQLvclyCoC8hIBOEpQKHszvPcAwSAnLDjc3Q4Hh-YWzBOz3v8U64Zn_sB5XdfBwXKScRGGXgRRaxlZEj6227TyadThgu0H-3E8wvmdPOImsfC2lgbxQHRnTXzltg/s600/IMG_0287.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I kept the quilting in the focal fabric bare minimal, especially as in this case they are basically like framed photos. A simple geometric frame design makes the fabric stand out while not obscuring the beautiful print.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWUxJ3Az0VOOBa5YubcLavwIpHjxEA-VpMDzvFWWlVh3rC4QHeJ8ThaXwh8QWcgFmcShkdkUvpYSiHJflep1jpM0UkNBlQgO25HmVc5ijj23_mzrxXy1K9bsYaxc79BclWX4hdtxLQ9tkCNF06Gz-EXkvod9eNWq9OKIcASlgYluIkFbY3CvPaVp4RMQ/s3024/IMG_0292.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWUxJ3Az0VOOBa5YubcLavwIpHjxEA-VpMDzvFWWlVh3rC4QHeJ8ThaXwh8QWcgFmcShkdkUvpYSiHJflep1jpM0UkNBlQgO25HmVc5ijj23_mzrxXy1K9bsYaxc79BclWX4hdtxLQ9tkCNF06Gz-EXkvod9eNWq9OKIcASlgYluIkFbY3CvPaVp4RMQ/s600/IMG_0292.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
And of course, I love to show the back of the quilt! For block quilts like this, the back can be as pretty as the front.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQqREGizZUOxOXQmipN6hcY1ThMCkt6g23_9GzWeLfsHQ1-qGBmhIkk0YewXQ-LVHsBDFjLO_vl4WiJmFVzFa4igLpyw0bpFOWogacP_1jJ39f-2bb5yp7pN4V3vNrH_fKH8j9iPCAWbuJ0_pKoqI2mtpQGhVGM7CBoj86UMHtgPv6oVTr0V3R7cgA7g/s3024/IMG_0293.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQqREGizZUOxOXQmipN6hcY1ThMCkt6g23_9GzWeLfsHQ1-qGBmhIkk0YewXQ-LVHsBDFjLO_vl4WiJmFVzFa4igLpyw0bpFOWogacP_1jJ39f-2bb5yp7pN4V3vNrH_fKH8j9iPCAWbuJ0_pKoqI2mtpQGhVGM7CBoj86UMHtgPv6oVTr0V3R7cgA7g/s600/IMG_0293.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I enjoyed using this Crescent charm pack so much that I ended up buying a fat quarter bundle of Crescent ... but as it was the only one I had, I now realize I don't want to cut it up ever! And so that is another one for the fabric museum I've got, aka lovely bundles that I know I will probably never use.

However, I didn't expect the break to last half a year! To be honest, with everything that's going on in my life and beyond, quilting just isn't at the top of my list at the moment.
<p></p>
But I did recently finish a quilt, a quilt I've been longarming on and off for 5 months. I finished the <a href="http://www.savoreverystitch.com/2019/09/circuit-ready-to-quilt.html" target="_blank">quilt top</a> for Circuit several years ago, and it's been one of my favorite quilt tops in my stash. The pattern is by Sylvia Schaefer.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7Kf8CnVXRFLozn7igL81VuiGj3rhNs1iR7AKL8drwJAbsOXpc7XK6pyxPxdv8B47fc6RtKk12DJ6P3QEOFqmQPEcrC7_KA8Xxp8dNNqgGV-HrXD2ANatx4GIZegJFBD9hx9TAnus7tZp3ZGS_tMz2fA-hNDCE_tG24_XYfkksAJA0fpF4l8lfxTPmRA/s3024/IMG_0182.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7Kf8CnVXRFLozn7igL81VuiGj3rhNs1iR7AKL8drwJAbsOXpc7XK6pyxPxdv8B47fc6RtKk12DJ6P3QEOFqmQPEcrC7_KA8Xxp8dNNqgGV-HrXD2ANatx4GIZegJFBD9hx9TAnus7tZp3ZGS_tMz2fA-hNDCE_tG24_XYfkksAJA0fpF4l8lfxTPmRA/s600/IMG_0182.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I'm very attracted to the sci-fi, cyberpunk style, so that's probably why I love this pattern so much. I also adore the fabrics, which is a mix of chartreuse and black with a lot of metallics thrown in.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWZMdnOxU_jdSNyAQz2TOYNf9SJcQzKQg86A4ldswH8CWdxIaicZDaqdULgmY3ND7Oejq-wPGKqhEoHnis7-SKc0qQdUq7O_4ip65L7r3wziugPU_-hroRUZ0vofLjszGg6cjXBerDuhIqwehl9wcKjzPl8ydfajXcR3pu25U8ySCurMJnTPI2moNjsw/s3024/IMG_0184.HEIC" style=""><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWZMdnOxU_jdSNyAQz2TOYNf9SJcQzKQg86A4ldswH8CWdxIaicZDaqdULgmY3ND7Oejq-wPGKqhEoHnis7-SKc0qQdUq7O_4ip65L7r3wziugPU_-hroRUZ0vofLjszGg6cjXBerDuhIqwehl9wcKjzPl8ydfajXcR3pu25U8ySCurMJnTPI2moNjsw/s600/IMG_0184.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
For the quilting design, I decided to use a bright green thread with a tiled design, but filling it with echoing straight lines so it emulates the look of circuits.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi43ctbnzDJneUsLBWi6ocum466pfAk95ZVy0Y0DadP3PiTFzjchQMGdP2uKgFQQ7DBH6BXpNj0XamfLtuJaj4nfqFqZO3tXn8l09q5j3GUW5LdlY-RVIcMx7Op5ogMLLmLElMG1OHOkYMoP56Gyz02DxF6X94oAoQXNfW47VY2z8rg7-Cp8eiYrafX7g/s3024/IMG_0191.HEIC" style=""><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi43ctbnzDJneUsLBWi6ocum466pfAk95ZVy0Y0DadP3PiTFzjchQMGdP2uKgFQQ7DBH6BXpNj0XamfLtuJaj4nfqFqZO3tXn8l09q5j3GUW5LdlY-RVIcMx7Op5ogMLLmLElMG1OHOkYMoP56Gyz02DxF6X94oAoQXNfW47VY2z8rg7-Cp8eiYrafX7g/s600/IMG_0191.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I wanted the circuits in the foreground to really jump out, so I kept the quilting very simple there, with just some light echoes.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWt4yVxz5N_JWGDlXCkHeqYqeeti2nH9akCkCYzKxBj438eWTXGSGuqAgw7CGHEaZk596ow-rUgMBG3rwt4AYsBDYFqVsUx83ffC9y3dX5PI-wNk8UkOILjBVYTrzExZVqV5nPQeoENRdnT1YoS4odZYjmIgvEm1C0xN21fVQ81zgMqVhKIviMPEd76g/s3024/IMG_0187.HEIC" style=""><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWt4yVxz5N_JWGDlXCkHeqYqeeti2nH9akCkCYzKxBj438eWTXGSGuqAgw7CGHEaZk596ow-rUgMBG3rwt4AYsBDYFqVsUx83ffC9y3dX5PI-wNk8UkOILjBVYTrzExZVqV5nPQeoENRdnT1YoS4odZYjmIgvEm1C0xN21fVQ81zgMqVhKIviMPEd76g/s600/IMG_0187.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
Although I was stuck for a long time on how to quilt this, and then stuck for a long time not wanting to quilt anything at all, I'm very happy with the end product. This is one I hope I'll always have.

<p></p>
This year I really focused on finishing quilts over piecing quilt tops, and not only that, but finishing quilt tops that I particularly love. It's hard for me to finish my favorites, because it means the infinite potential is gone, but I also know there's really no use for a shelf full of quilt tops I can't use. So, I made it a point to finish quite a few of my favorites, and I will hopefully continue that trend for 2022 as well.
<p></p>
<b>Most Challenging: <a href="http://www.savoreverystitch.com/2021/02/bohemian-spark.html" target="_blank">Bohemian Spark</a></b>
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRpg-p1Ww5GsHvDIV9Tg3gy2G8FWaOigRDToq9ZGPfYMswP7-hYcH-g-Aszto4mwLjR2lUnp9sGCm2dbOrHSqnQPgN-j5CL6yOQPwVI6z0hZtEtJ9KIls1DXlUS_2TBbsJLqKShmoVH50g/s3024/IMG_3625.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRpg-p1Ww5GsHvDIV9Tg3gy2G8FWaOigRDToq9ZGPfYMswP7-hYcH-g-Aszto4mwLjR2lUnp9sGCm2dbOrHSqnQPgN-j5CL6yOQPwVI6z0hZtEtJ9KIls1DXlUS_2TBbsJLqKShmoVH50g/s600/IMG_3625.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
Bohemian Spark was a real challenge both to piece and to quilt! It was entirely paper-pieced, but the pieces are huge and the edges are biased, and assembly was a pain. Quilting this was also very challenging due to the long lines and figuring out an efficient quilt path. I love the finished product though!
<p></p>
<b>Most Fun: <a href="http://www.savoreverystitch.com/2021/10/glass-candies.html" target="_blank">Glass Candies</a></b>
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhctEiNEz9r0pWBHWN0hS3zHhFzYnGHH70rFr_-dpNezdZhjfsPkYYE-1GrkdyOOSRDFAuD82ofNKHdSpfmetUodBsebKn0fU1zarwTN57tZ29mKgnSxMSdJc0mik_hz3o1Ou0nC3zcRzPF/s3024/IMG_0092.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhctEiNEz9r0pWBHWN0hS3zHhFzYnGHH70rFr_-dpNezdZhjfsPkYYE-1GrkdyOOSRDFAuD82ofNKHdSpfmetUodBsebKn0fU1zarwTN57tZ29mKgnSxMSdJc0mik_hz3o1Ou0nC3zcRzPF/s600/IMG_0092.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
Glass Candies was such a fun quilt to make due to the fact that the entire quilt is made up of half-square triangles (which are my favorite thing), the fabric (Ombre Confetti) was so bright and colorful, and the quilting was very fun and easy.
<p></p>
<b>Most Surprising: <a href="http://www.savoreverystitch.com/2021/04/city-tiles.html" target="_blank">City Tiles</a></b>
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwxaz76Vpq5NumlNhpiBgCCkjMsWz6SUO5L9zt4bnSrdA8-4G-UeJ5Nqj-FcUUuy0yf5bK4OudejPpPSYK4b9i96Nl_Lm0gfhejQFk7u8gz9z3PwnbIDR4FbBkbtHaiTgxRbxujYyHCzsF/s3024/IMG_3657.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwxaz76Vpq5NumlNhpiBgCCkjMsWz6SUO5L9zt4bnSrdA8-4G-UeJ5Nqj-FcUUuy0yf5bK4OudejPpPSYK4b9i96Nl_Lm0gfhejQFk7u8gz9z3PwnbIDR4FbBkbtHaiTgxRbxujYyHCzsF/s600/IMG_3657.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I went into the quilting design of City Tiles with the idea of making it look very different from what I usually do. I decided to experiment with large unquilted areas adjacent to dense matchstick quilting, and the effect turned out much better than I expected.
<p></p>
<b>Most Inspired: <a href="http://www.savoreverystitch.com/2021/01/winterfresh.html" target="_blank">Winterfresh</a></b>
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgQ2AKGzzRLpPqYVQW46ax0Ru9W2BTdrWF_x9IYCVggNzlME0YfB4RZuDxTSjpTENrSWsWzBaglwVOkmrEyQkJwKSdG7cl_YS4d37lHz4COMv-x_ckk_Iy6MP2_LrCEXUtdWFfdxVXYHLW/s3024/IMG_3567.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgQ2AKGzzRLpPqYVQW46ax0Ru9W2BTdrWF_x9IYCVggNzlME0YfB4RZuDxTSjpTENrSWsWzBaglwVOkmrEyQkJwKSdG7cl_YS4d37lHz4COMv-x_ckk_Iy6MP2_LrCEXUtdWFfdxVXYHLW/s600/IMG_3567.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
Most of the time when I make a quilt, I either use a kit or a fat quarter bundle. Winterfresh was an exception because I picked yardage from my stash that were all from different collections, and I'm in love with the vibe of this quilt, which has a minty, fresh, snowy feel.
<p></p>
<b>Favorite Quilt</b>: <a href="http://www.savoreverystitch.com/2021/01/spectrum.html" target="_blank">Spectrum</a></b>
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-IUZAnfwxLeljBrXkgILRbKRqhV7aAiIYRhkqveKdEkOeULDrIbUrCyCZjsLZf8-xGoA9R8DqSkRnhT9gsj4th4grUwSdDYs0tIcQqurIGy_iu2Oqn47bA-99_-g5Z6i0HkKI6K4eWU-g/s2934/IMG_3599.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="2934" data-original-width="2934" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-IUZAnfwxLeljBrXkgILRbKRqhV7aAiIYRhkqveKdEkOeULDrIbUrCyCZjsLZf8-xGoA9R8DqSkRnhT9gsj4th4grUwSdDYs0tIcQqurIGy_iu2Oqn47bA-99_-g5Z6i0HkKI6K4eWU-g/s600/IMG_3599.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
Finally, my favorite quilt of the year is still Spectrum which I made at the beginning of the year. The piecing was very easy and the quilting was much simpler than what I usually do, but I just love how the fabric glows. It's perhaps no coincidence that Observatory by Alison Glass, the fabric collection here, is one of my favorite fabric collections ever.

I spent less time quilting this year and more time on my other pursuits, and I expect that to continue next year also. However, I feel much less stressed or pressured when I'm quilting now, and that allows me to enjoy it much more.

I have a lot of patterns ... and I have a lot of fabric bundles. Finding the right pattern to go with the right fabric is a fun yet stressful experience, because besides taking into account whether the fabric looks right for the pattern, I also prefer to make matches where a majority of the bundle is used up.
<p></p>
When I saw Cross Tile (designed by <a href="https://quiltyloveshop.com/" target="_blank">Quilty Love</a>), I immediately knew which fabric collection to go with it: Matchmade by Art Gallery Fabrics. Matchmade is collection of near-solids, and I particularly like that it's not a typical rainbow palette.

<p></p>
This quilt was really easy to piece, but certainly not boring. When I'm working with a fabric collection I like a lot, it really makes piecing even more enjoyable.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAzTXm3PuSa6ZPZ5ZlsRY2rda3SXhtYvmzB9-aKrOO2PAkLBGyfhCpqbOMTdLn44jyiUSUDZScgzx05U2b0ZKncIyJl89WhuW7mXMft5wz2JAPHLDGbF0GTf-xs5k37XywEbiRLWLgV9C2/s3024/IMG_0123.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAzTXm3PuSa6ZPZ5ZlsRY2rda3SXhtYvmzB9-aKrOO2PAkLBGyfhCpqbOMTdLn44jyiUSUDZScgzx05U2b0ZKncIyJl89WhuW7mXMft5wz2JAPHLDGbF0GTf-xs5k37XywEbiRLWLgV9C2/s600/IMG_0123.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I didn't want to stress about the quilting, so I designed a pretty simple block-style quilt. The foreground is a dot-to-dot design because I don't want to quilt too heavily over AGF fabrics. I really love coming up with dot-to-dot designs, because it feels like I'm solving a puzzle.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrip06kBkn1K61vD5O2rhT68OpyIub9tPaXY-gYebDzSWKvvaVUE6ORd8_YJs8deAgJI-r9R73yG4vk2MVcRW_GbWEHwXsDkHNh7pi6mPurSKaigxe-XKubEdd_JBjfGZLG3yaHPhVy4Wp/s3024/IMG_0116.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrip06kBkn1K61vD5O2rhT68OpyIub9tPaXY-gYebDzSWKvvaVUE6ORd8_YJs8deAgJI-r9R73yG4vk2MVcRW_GbWEHwXsDkHNh7pi6mPurSKaigxe-XKubEdd_JBjfGZLG3yaHPhVy4Wp/s600/IMG_0116.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
In the background I quilted swirls and pebbles, but I decided to add one little element that I think made a big difference: unquilted space. The unquilted areas instantly add some punch and also broke up the background nicely into blocks.
<p></p>

<p></p>
I had planned to finish 18 quilts this year, and at first I was on track, but then ... life happened. However, I'm still very pleased with the 14 quilts that I did manage to finish this year, because I finished some quilts that I had once been reluctant to do because they were too precious, and that's definitely progress!
<p></p>

I decided on <a href="http://www.savoreverystitch.com/2020/12/paper-chain-final-assembly.html" target="_blank">Paper Chain</a>, which is a block-of-the-month quilt that I made last year.
<p></p>
The fabric collection I chose is Breeze by Zen Chic, and the layout is from the Quilt Block Cookbook by Amy Gibson. This quilt really gives me a Japanese vibe!
<p></p>

<p></p>
I have never done free-motion quilting on a sampler quilt before, so this was a bit of a new experience. But at the end of the day, it's not that different from non-sampler quilts, except I have a few more blocks to design.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxzvnj3lVciRkwIASpk449DU68wNh7m7nfla9RvLJ9FXo4LKhZA4cpK4pQGGJU0W9GeYzd6A-pLq-fNLU2rZx6hOP9XDnE75iQzXSi79lkxgPzjWyz4Xvz3Apu1kkLU6F0jTnN2ILc5rIT/s3024/IMG_0107.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxzvnj3lVciRkwIASpk449DU68wNh7m7nfla9RvLJ9FXo4LKhZA4cpK4pQGGJU0W9GeYzd6A-pLq-fNLU2rZx6hOP9XDnE75iQzXSi79lkxgPzjWyz4Xvz3Apu1kkLU6F0jTnN2ILc5rIT/s600/IMG_0107.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I tend to not quilt very heavily on foreground fabrics, so I came up with a different design for each block mostly by employing straight lines, curvy lines, and an occasional plume feather. But this was the easy part.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfjbThMPFDd3lIutA4DTYtGZyHeNoz8M4hOVEHT_GDIiIUkYXceeR9zY9UfsVWH14XXSSRJGn-spM7ByJPJ7s1_tss7EFuH2a9oXve8zNpFYd9csfiZDQ27C5uW9Aj8cXHCh8sxKllZZNW/s3024/IMG_0099.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfjbThMPFDd3lIutA4DTYtGZyHeNoz8M4hOVEHT_GDIiIUkYXceeR9zY9UfsVWH14XXSSRJGn-spM7ByJPJ7s1_tss7EFuH2a9oXve8zNpFYd9csfiZDQ27C5uW9Aj8cXHCh8sxKllZZNW/s600/IMG_0099.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
The background was more challenging since there was so much negative space. I decided to try a design that was totally new to me: Angela Walters's paisley feathers. It's an intricate looking design that is actually easier than regular feathers, but incredibly exhausting to do. I had to take my time on this so that I didn't get injured.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_QctOLG2DRI7tBbZJBc4azyjYWmCwe6Rpa3kDDouzZ-3nyUp9k3qsnoN1WDtjL3fNDTb42xqoo21xdDyXxYoPkt2J3noS_cB6ZN_GcNc5lyF3nwNxoc_iu9GmME8IEKBUhq9rluEmYRG6/s2981/IMG_0100.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="2981" data-original-width="2981" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_QctOLG2DRI7tBbZJBc4azyjYWmCwe6Rpa3kDDouzZ-3nyUp9k3qsnoN1WDtjL3fNDTb42xqoo21xdDyXxYoPkt2J3noS_cB6ZN_GcNc5lyF3nwNxoc_iu9GmME8IEKBUhq9rluEmYRG6/s600/IMG_0100.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I had a lot of fun coming up with a design for each block, and though the background was challenging, I'm very satisfied with the final results.

But some are just more special than others.
<p></p>
Glass Candies is one of my all-time favorites. Both the pattern (Dude Ranch) and the fabric (Confetti Ombre) are designed by <a href="https://vanessachristenson.com/" target="_blank">V & Co</a>. I renamed it Glass Candies because as I was piecing this, I kept thinking of those beautiful Murano glass candies I saw on a trip to Venice.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2WfglWyc-krUHNgWLpcKoU3YaZxrQOv_-duteKsq4vNxJ_79-k4j5B7of8bBnfUXOhoiguqxtecKrBBizwXd3Yo5ZK5VM2xRnOMV5hiufwX5STfAAg6GzUu4Mst4fCnrG9AiYPLe_pOVH/s3024/IMG_0089.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2WfglWyc-krUHNgWLpcKoU3YaZxrQOv_-duteKsq4vNxJ_79-k4j5B7of8bBnfUXOhoiguqxtecKrBBizwXd3Yo5ZK5VM2xRnOMV5hiufwX5STfAAg6GzUu4Mst4fCnrG9AiYPLe_pOVH/s600/IMG_0089.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
This quilt is made up of half-square triangles and squares so it was quite easy and lots of fun to put together. The only painful part was assembly as it's assembled on the bias.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipqJhThb9AVLRFCkTggb9VjVWF5JyChAi_jzEwlfn7Uw15-7OsCe9m38Q1krHiAXM8yHRbQXLILHsPjWJIPx2iW6sloOCXqWy-1cHiZ9L9xNdF7RbgYP7jFZKf2LE7QgVlW6FUzc5fpXiM/s3024/IMG_0090.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipqJhThb9AVLRFCkTggb9VjVWF5JyChAi_jzEwlfn7Uw15-7OsCe9m38Q1krHiAXM8yHRbQXLILHsPjWJIPx2iW6sloOCXqWy-1cHiZ9L9xNdF7RbgYP7jFZKf2LE7QgVlW6FUzc5fpXiM/s600/IMG_0090.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I had so much fun coming up with a quilting design for this quilt. I kept things very simple in the foreground (just continuous curves) and went to town in the background, creating geometric secondary designs and complementing them with swirls.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh78XrdnI_qvsXkKKrmNd9tsd9rACFzXxn6bnTg0ElJxq5Z0z2k4Pmd89Y0DrqZlf-DveGGntphT_0fHOot1-qIcySU6XscSAlahRUAYIGcIRv3UfhKo0OFBjwonAFzNqa8qVyEZWeF_6wj/s3024/IMG_0092.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh78XrdnI_qvsXkKKrmNd9tsd9rACFzXxn6bnTg0ElJxq5Z0z2k4Pmd89Y0DrqZlf-DveGGntphT_0fHOot1-qIcySU6XscSAlahRUAYIGcIRv3UfhKo0OFBjwonAFzNqa8qVyEZWeF_6wj/s600/IMG_0092.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
It took me a long time to quilt this, because I was enjoying it so much and wanted to savor the process ... and because it was a lot of quilting. I have the big M-sized bobbin on my longarm, and it still took about 10 bobbins!
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRTc24ORP5gzHuS5uoF4ccLen0Y-ghabiXIHyqgT8WRckpWHxpJyYUfj13LGeUay5US-n0jhBMr7rNpEAUsAFRN2JG5PI31ZPn6fjzG7-deFHvJ06dX9Jirl7oyC6Tb_51vCGFibK1c2C8/s3024/IMG_0091.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRTc24ORP5gzHuS5uoF4ccLen0Y-ghabiXIHyqgT8WRckpWHxpJyYUfj13LGeUay5US-n0jhBMr7rNpEAUsAFRN2JG5PI31ZPn6fjzG7-deFHvJ06dX9Jirl7oyC6Tb_51vCGFibK1c2C8/s600/IMG_0091.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I'm thrilled with the end result, as it turned out better than I imagined. This one is a keeper!
<p></p>

Sedona, designed by Sew Kind of Wonderful, is a beautiful black and white quilt featuring some really neat piecing. It is probably the most graphic quilt I've ever made!
<p></p>
The piecing process of Sedona was intricate and difficult, but I managed to get through it because of the great pattern writing and the usage of the specialty ruler. It's also perhaps the first row-by-row quilt I've ever done.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhysQSwecHgbtzosdjHJH_XXMCZQV51m3gI5hg3NpgT6lERRh6IRVex23Y7h8XdNRpuznDkmPxtxMyFFd6uaU0o8j8LYUUsgIaIeQCIK81gBNf1l75hsJmMsfO48rTm5ZsbBcg53kInSC-g/s2969/IMG_0054.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="2969" data-original-width="2969" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhysQSwecHgbtzosdjHJH_XXMCZQV51m3gI5hg3NpgT6lERRh6IRVex23Y7h8XdNRpuznDkmPxtxMyFFd6uaU0o8j8LYUUsgIaIeQCIK81gBNf1l75hsJmMsfO48rTm5ZsbBcg53kInSC-g/s600/IMG_0054.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I had auditioned half a dozen different plans to quilt this, but none seemed right for the quilt. Every time I closed my eyes, I imagined this quilt with simple half-inch spaced matchstick quilting. So that's what I ended up doing.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVwHA-WoY4xl4gEfy3IA3vQVA0wfjq0Z-lrs9UOwaG7k97nK-2iEPMvWj-aSB-V8TsBq_plKZyZnF90CuOBmNjEcnuSViF8IamaJYOyY5NA1kreLEfrx5ymThw-T5AwGJpvzu5fhGGw0tc/s3024/IMG_0046.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVwHA-WoY4xl4gEfy3IA3vQVA0wfjq0Z-lrs9UOwaG7k97nK-2iEPMvWj-aSB-V8TsBq_plKZyZnF90CuOBmNjEcnuSViF8IamaJYOyY5NA1kreLEfrx5ymThw-T5AwGJpvzu5fhGGw0tc/s600/IMG_0046.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I took a deep breath before committing, but I felt better as soon as I quilted a few lines and knew I wasn't going to second guess myself anymore ... mostly because ripping would take too long!

<p></p>
Quilting this quilt reminds me a bit of making <a href="http://www.savoreverystitch.com/2020/08/season-of-gifts.html" target="_blank">Aztec Sky</a>, which is also a black and white quilt that I did half-inch matchstick quilting on. Except Sedona was a little easier because it's pieced, hence it's straighter and the seam lines help a lot to keep me aligned.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr8hOXCOOVviHZYfg8_RBZvtEtq8SRh_Zmssas6ivEsc-im_irBwEY8dTZvgP95HzDSIPAfJmBcS_zbLsk5vDCE8jBL4qwps4ESyWtldu8gXizUtU0wEC7QtZS1pzL5McmDQr1CSli2Hly/s3024/IMG_0051.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr8hOXCOOVviHZYfg8_RBZvtEtq8SRh_Zmssas6ivEsc-im_irBwEY8dTZvgP95HzDSIPAfJmBcS_zbLsk5vDCE8jBL4qwps4ESyWtldu8gXizUtU0wEC7QtZS1pzL5McmDQr1CSli2Hly/s600/IMG_0051.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I'm very happy with the end result, and glad that I was able to finish another of my favorites! While I don't think I can achieve my goal of finishing 17 quilts this year (due to a busy summer), I am glad I talked myself into quilting some of my most precious tops.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaEta9FPJrC-5_QzID94X0FJdMNkTR67XtwpbDDgX-rfFmV0TAf4xR2_oEsnpUFDWhDNVOoG8e2Ku8EnMmZLnB1DTfDlcwkiNZcsAzJe_7paelD_bKGqLBNYCo2jur6i2pdk9H4a8uGmmf/s3024/IMG_0052.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaEta9FPJrC-5_QzID94X0FJdMNkTR67XtwpbDDgX-rfFmV0TAf4xR2_oEsnpUFDWhDNVOoG8e2Ku8EnMmZLnB1DTfDlcwkiNZcsAzJe_7paelD_bKGqLBNYCo2jur6i2pdk9H4a8uGmmf/s600/IMG_0052.HEIC"/></a></div>Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08043276493816926286noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1790129856810440171.post-86432135485584718632021-08-13T00:00:00.052-05:002021-08-14T18:34:26.627-05:00AtmosphereThe Atmosphere <a href="http://www.savoreverystitch.com/2020/05/atmosphere-quilt-along.html" target="_blank">quilt along</a> came along last year at a very unusual time. When it was first announced, the pandemic was barely a blip on my radar. By the time I was making the quilt top for the quilt along, however, things were getting serious. We had just started the lockdowns in my state, and my family was struggling to figure out remote learning. It's hard to imagine that that was almost a year and a half ago!
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqdSxB6Ua7YBkkHHeAXD-POkw_S1iYm-9NWC8jWzxi3MDOc4qFQAya5-CcQo8KulJ1KrsM5K68l5HeO9fyv2YX3UkH7cHl5CsKgNLxjNz-_67Yeks7R_CHr1X1kcBXbp_tMi3j9cL7cN1i/s3024/IMG_0033.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqdSxB6Ua7YBkkHHeAXD-POkw_S1iYm-9NWC8jWzxi3MDOc4qFQAya5-CcQo8KulJ1KrsM5K68l5HeO9fyv2YX3UkH7cHl5CsKgNLxjNz-_67Yeks7R_CHr1X1kcBXbp_tMi3j9cL7cN1i/s600/IMG_0033.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
And now as I'm finishing up this quilt, I can look with a hopeful eye into the future that things might finally be getting back to normal, or normal-ish.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVIMDO6vUFkt8xidkL_wn-7IoTzQ11CPJl8LZD_fpXsCw5ad_J_Hmf9WFPioRDV_hOYQttzmGFdgLnEknPu4l9s-Ao07gg-vAql7aEthDGB3qdmasJYAIqMIZcdIWRX6t6MhcYcgRBZlNg/s3024/IMG_0032.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVIMDO6vUFkt8xidkL_wn-7IoTzQ11CPJl8LZD_fpXsCw5ad_J_Hmf9WFPioRDV_hOYQttzmGFdgLnEknPu4l9s-Ao07gg-vAql7aEthDGB3qdmasJYAIqMIZcdIWRX6t6MhcYcgRBZlNg/s600/IMG_0032.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
Atmosphere is an all-solids quilt designed by Lee Heinrich consisting of half-square triangles and flying geese, and it is truly spectacular in the array of colors it has! Keeping things organized during piecing time would have been a challenge, but the pattern was so well-written and helped me keep things perfectly organized.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCGGU44KeqjzA2q8QTYdv_eMuIv7SWtD32AnBxFjgzlPksnUdLzGqCUjtSY8G1CHGDnk7yRUVJwfgtrxJixmLRffA0aq1a7EykPbF4gMwa0hGY13GklDR0hrrIIWjCogk8kR2Za2_vvAnH/s3024/IMG_0037.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCGGU44KeqjzA2q8QTYdv_eMuIv7SWtD32AnBxFjgzlPksnUdLzGqCUjtSY8G1CHGDnk7yRUVJwfgtrxJixmLRffA0aq1a7EykPbF4gMwa0hGY13GklDR0hrrIIWjCogk8kR2Za2_vvAnH/s600/IMG_0037.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
One of the things I particularly love about this quilt is the secondary designs, and I wanted to emphasize that in the quilting. I used a lot of geometric designs and ribbon candies to link the shapes together.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYEa9d-XZraO2DSijnhD_7RWMee8iz6G8TuBhou7A9J9SX9s-TisAztzfSNSIVcYDBN18nFa3ba5hMnMDbW1wOGakIouYQRo_rwKXHjQpef50HmVxuaK5Vb4CVf5eBkfk5qDzzZGrUJU7S/s3024/IMG_0038.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYEa9d-XZraO2DSijnhD_7RWMee8iz6G8TuBhou7A9J9SX9s-TisAztzfSNSIVcYDBN18nFa3ba5hMnMDbW1wOGakIouYQRo_rwKXHjQpef50HmVxuaK5Vb4CVf5eBkfk5qDzzZGrUJU7S/s600/IMG_0038.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
In the more open areas, I used a dense swirl for background. With a matching thread, the swirls add a lot of texture and look so elegant.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSOgwg8BNQM-23zyQD0yCC51VFSZ2KZKQoFCI31TLonDiCiqJDvmuZkMyJ5lQrKtGEdnSdewanFEHZjwUqqvaR__aKRkBNMFVngaofZP5m_MLTUlgYj7DW1HjYwQzutKVkhNqLfI01Oxam/s3024/IMG_0042.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSOgwg8BNQM-23zyQD0yCC51VFSZ2KZKQoFCI31TLonDiCiqJDvmuZkMyJ5lQrKtGEdnSdewanFEHZjwUqqvaR__aKRkBNMFVngaofZP5m_MLTUlgYj7DW1HjYwQzutKVkhNqLfI01Oxam/s600/IMG_0042.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I really love all the beautiful colors of this quilt, and it's such a bright and cheerful quilt!

Just one charm pack to try this quilting thing out. It led to a baby quilt, which then led to a new obsession, and now I have far too many charm packs in my stash. What to do with them?
<p></p>
This is why I was so happy with the news that Cheryl Brickey of <a href="https://meadowmistdesigns.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Meadow Mist Design</a> has a new book coming out called Just One Charm Pack Quilts, and I was honored that she invited me to participate in the <a href="https://meadowmistdesigns.blogspot.com/p/just-one-charm-pack-quilts.html" target="_blank">blog hop</a>. The quilt I chose to make is called Cat's Eye, consisting solely of half-square triangles.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCRv0lqziuG6OT5U-leyTKy3FLqF_mEbVwJCuTUyPfKCQVj3Bv3q9WaCFE5bi_xobvTGsa_4xeQ5XLP_n4NNAs58oxYlM3vJkJqSR2pjgb1d6oVowmE3fA3943CbbQcwutXyf9fIhONj_z/s3024/IMG_3687.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCRv0lqziuG6OT5U-leyTKy3FLqF_mEbVwJCuTUyPfKCQVj3Bv3q9WaCFE5bi_xobvTGsa_4xeQ5XLP_n4NNAs58oxYlM3vJkJqSR2pjgb1d6oVowmE3fA3943CbbQcwutXyf9fIhONj_z/s600/IMG_3687.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
The fabric I chose is some of my very special fabric that I've been holding onto for a long time: First of Infinity by Kumiko Fujita. The huge funky prints are so interesting and unique, and they breathe a kind of urban pace which I adore.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmtQV4AedRD___UHW2cUUPSfxQF6OqqlVnx4qvOoGg89XEImpBbWjNsRzmXEEot5iENIVIkKhoaPYU4Vm_XiFItddmyTCedZkOTrGHROHpL3OTHu5tp2aOWKnXODOgLPxISb6nIINatS57/s3024/IMG_0008.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmtQV4AedRD___UHW2cUUPSfxQF6OqqlVnx4qvOoGg89XEImpBbWjNsRzmXEEot5iENIVIkKhoaPYU4Vm_XiFItddmyTCedZkOTrGHROHpL3OTHu5tp2aOWKnXODOgLPxISb6nIINatS57/s600/IMG_0008.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I modified this pattern just slightly from the book version, as I wanted a slightly larger lap-sized quilt.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif4tPRJZOEnCk7SatUuKYQS38l5KSPmam2ArE5CbJUDKBNMG7Sxs-A4wejYuyMaT24p4BerAbsVQqGlHVo6yf3k7Td_8RUYfLXuBbY2PD-QR8k1_0zYpoXsviLVTKn3C0GgKzHRN0T6uIF/s3024/IMG_0007.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEif4tPRJZOEnCk7SatUuKYQS38l5KSPmam2ArE5CbJUDKBNMG7Sxs-A4wejYuyMaT24p4BerAbsVQqGlHVo6yf3k7Td_8RUYfLXuBbY2PD-QR8k1_0zYpoXsviLVTKn3C0GgKzHRN0T6uIF/s600/IMG_0007.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I designed the quilting to complement the feel of the print: angular and linear. In fact, this entire quilt is made up of just straight lines! The center of the quilt is my favorite with a square spiral design.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE07Qd52ImhD3Cs6e1JKnsl3QBISpGPp9OR7NwOIPxPCoGE0tzgjSrv64qryVM8DGUltYukVHKWc9qZP8QeVyQ3gEtmn6Bl4doJU9ywRu-NLvqr80ssW7vsYfcG6KDb7OfUtsGh-IBv19Y/s3024/IMG_0010.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE07Qd52ImhD3Cs6e1JKnsl3QBISpGPp9OR7NwOIPxPCoGE0tzgjSrv64qryVM8DGUltYukVHKWc9qZP8QeVyQ3gEtmn6Bl4doJU9ywRu-NLvqr80ssW7vsYfcG6KDb7OfUtsGh-IBv19Y/s600/IMG_0010.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I love the look on the back too, as the quilting shows up great on the solid backing.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFD0JLPrMuCXsq4NRXtG0MMyO7MwSAVLxIAQPWG12iuN51ciRp28YVbVh7Qq-C6Pd5pojiJ2aYZz9s2JJAU3AHWYrxUsE0DoVnARSPjtm3XyKTOU9SAy9iQKccY8qI_Xoq3ezfjyzikhaS/s3024/IMG_0009.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFD0JLPrMuCXsq4NRXtG0MMyO7MwSAVLxIAQPWG12iuN51ciRp28YVbVh7Qq-C6Pd5pojiJ2aYZz9s2JJAU3AHWYrxUsE0DoVnARSPjtm3XyKTOU9SAy9iQKccY8qI_Xoq3ezfjyzikhaS/s600/IMG_0009.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I really enjoyed making this quilt, both the piecing and the quilting, and I've had a great time participating in this blog hop and finally using up some of that precious First of Infinity fabrics. Be sure to check out the other stops on this <a href="https://meadowmistdesigns.blogspot.com/p/just-one-charm-pack-quilts.html" target="_blank">blog hop</a> to see other gorgeous quilts made from charm packs!Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08043276493816926286noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1790129856810440171.post-22125982350022566702021-06-14T10:02:00.001-05:002021-06-14T14:29:46.516-05:00GeodeWithout a doubt, Geode is one of my favorite quilt tops in my stash. In fact, it was one that I held onto for a long time, deeming it too-precious-to-finish. But since this is the year that I aim to finish at least a <i>few</i> of my most precious quilt tops, I decided to pull this one out.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGQV4bcyts-weGNS5Dux4YcufQ5a2pXVRvjlSIxQJksBC7gVqIdzl3AG9jpx-BArKO3AXrCAhbcvFpB4CDker9dHYeahn7Ladm4Cno6N73eiPVJU3s6jOWsQ0kFpLDG2snxEW5I8fwnZWI/s3024/IMG_1266.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGQV4bcyts-weGNS5Dux4YcufQ5a2pXVRvjlSIxQJksBC7gVqIdzl3AG9jpx-BArKO3AXrCAhbcvFpB4CDker9dHYeahn7Ladm4Cno6N73eiPVJU3s6jOWsQ0kFpLDG2snxEW5I8fwnZWI/s600/IMG_1266.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
The pattern is by Blossom Heart Quilts, and the fabric collection I used is Imprint by Katarina Roccella for Art Gallery Fabrics. Imprint came out in 2015, before I even knew what a quilt was, so I had a hard time getting even a full set. The scarcity effect is no doubt part of why I love this quilt so much!
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8qO0HlTuA6X6onsRZ2sk-6Qxy9J9FgUoYgBeO-v5OglB8h2Gwx9LJXRCpsK0co-T9dE180O87kJr551adZKHAqRW7BilSMeZy0yBaokNY8o6HDxyAlkT1jZNtzYwKXT-58LqOnm2y5SsW/s3024/IMG_1271.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8qO0HlTuA6X6onsRZ2sk-6Qxy9J9FgUoYgBeO-v5OglB8h2Gwx9LJXRCpsK0co-T9dE180O87kJr551adZKHAqRW7BilSMeZy0yBaokNY8o6HDxyAlkT1jZNtzYwKXT-58LqOnm2y5SsW/s600/IMG_1271.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I incorporated just 3 designs into Geode: piano keys, swirls, and dot-to-dot designs.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8PoLJKjsMA9PTI8EtD7fXSq2Px36Y9tiZfaK7Sc4n2RLkltycXtxL04chIariUUND2wkiy-Y1ZAV7qZlcVpi8MHMSnNFt5SHJi6nV2lMepMzaIfHSEX9e5nd_WJjlwFmq04Ehdh2Zz6q1/s3024/IMG_1272.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8PoLJKjsMA9PTI8EtD7fXSq2Px36Y9tiZfaK7Sc4n2RLkltycXtxL04chIariUUND2wkiy-Y1ZAV7qZlcVpi8MHMSnNFt5SHJi6nV2lMepMzaIfHSEX9e5nd_WJjlwFmq04Ehdh2Zz6q1/s600/IMG_1272.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
Though simple, I love the high amount of contrast between these designs. I don't usually mark, but for piano keys I make an exception, because I love the evenly spaced look.
<p></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe6EDDJ8eALRh33eOU5e8plwC1w_m6gFT7iLLEvlD_a8QM6F_DO_9srAaBNhqNyTukBeREsId8OIbToccgfcypE072bVKQacQTvceh-0aWQUvx9AlL6ZazUktCpBc1h0t9iUmt_8eP6quU/s3024/IMG_1273.HEIC"><img alt="" border="0" width="640" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhe6EDDJ8eALRh33eOU5e8plwC1w_m6gFT7iLLEvlD_a8QM6F_DO_9srAaBNhqNyTukBeREsId8OIbToccgfcypE072bVKQacQTvceh-0aWQUvx9AlL6ZazUktCpBc1h0t9iUmt_8eP6quU/s600/IMG_1273.HEIC"/></a></div>
<p></p>
I'm so happy for finally having the guts to dig out this quilt top to quilt it. I hope it gives me the impetus I need to pull out a few more of these too-precious-to-quilt quilts.

I'm really happy with the quilts I've done so far this year, but since school's out and summer's in full swing, I will be taking a mini-break on quilting. However, I will be participating in the blog hop of Just One Charm Pack Quilts, a new book from Cheryl Brickey of <a href="https://meadowmistdesigns.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Meadow Mist Designs</a>. The blog hop starts in mid-July, so I will be back then to show the quilt I made from her book!Lizhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08043276493816926286noreply@blogger.com5
